just started eating Healthy.. how do I avoid Junk

    What do you consider healthy and junk? A healthy diet is a balanced diet with plenty of variety, no reason at all you need to cut things out completely unless you can't moderate them.

    A small snack every day as long as I don't go over.

    It's hard to avoid what you like, when it's readily available all the time, and you tell yourself you shouldn't eat it, and instead eat healthy, which becomes the opposite of what you like. It's extremely difficult to stay motivated for such a depressive outlook on one of the most basic and pleasurable things in life.

    Out of sight , out of mind. Remove anything in your kitchen that is not healthy. if you do for some reason buy a snack, which is ok to treat yourself every now and then, just make sure you only buy 1, and always try and find single packaged items.( And just remember there's always a Monday)

    I say theres always a monday , because when you start eating healthy, (its not a diet its a eating healthy life style) some weeks you may cheat a little more then you wanted , but remember theres always monday so you can state again.

    Absolutely nothing wrong with snacking if it fits your calorie allowance and nutritional goals. It's really not necessary to be throwing anything out either, unless it's something you can't moderate.

    Evaluate what you have historically stuffed your face with. Seriously. Was it jerky or was it twinkies? Was it vegetables or was it corn chips? Then try to recognize foods you eat which actually satisfy you. Then try to eat the satisfying foods first, so that it's easier to avoid the face-stuffing foods.

    The problem with waiting till a Monday to start over is it perpetuates the "well I already blew it, might as well keep overeating this weekend and I will start again on Monday". Often when people over do it, if they are logging and tracking their intake they find they may not have done as much damage to their calorie deficit as they thought.

    For the OP, when I started here almost 5 years ago I quickly realized that if I cut out all the things I enjoyed, it wouldn't be sustainable to me, I would get discouraged from extreme restriction and give up. So instead I focused on what I could add to my lifestyle: more vegetables, more protein, more whole grains, more exercise, more sleep. I found that by doing that, and logging accurately, I prioritized the healthy things but had just enough room for things like pizza, ice cream, and wine in moderation. The only things I cut out were calories, but I added a lot of new things to the way I was previously eating. I lost the weight I set out to lose and am now in maintenance and never felt deprived or restricted.

    Don't avoid junk. Eat in moderation. Keep a calorie deficit and you won't feel deprived. Remember you need to find an eating habit that you can sustain forever.

    Hey! I was eating fairly healthier until all the holidays started I’m late Fall. I’m trying to get back on it. I’m a really bad snacker and have portion control issues. Once I start it’s difficult for me to say okay I’ve had enough chips let me stop instead I eat almost a whole bag. What i donis avoid snacks I love for about 2 months (that’s when my cravings start stopping). I make some healthy alternatives with recipes I find online. Some people go with the moderation option instead but for me that doesn’t work. Hope this helps or gives you some ideas!
