Hi I'm starting a whole New Year's resolution diet!! Mediteranean. But I'd like to delete foods I've entered the last couple weeks which will never be on my list again. How do I delete old foods? Makes the list really long!

    In the app:
When in your diary, press add foods, view your selection, press and hold the food you want to delete, the delete entry option becomes available.

There's a way to do it on desktop as well but I can't remember the steps.

Ok on the desktop version you can delete by:

When adding foods to a meal, click the "Frequent" tab, check all you want to delete and at the bottom there is a "Delete From List" option.

The Recent list is a query (search) of your Food Diary, similar to a Google search (query) of the internet. Just as someone cannot delete things from a Google search, an MFP user cannot delete things from the Recent list query. The Recent list exists as a one-time search result. There would have to be a major recoding of the MFP software to make that change.

You could go back in your Diary and delete all instances of the things you logged so that they will not be found by the Recent list query.

You can do that but you can't delete from any other tab like recent..

    Correct

ETA: well sorta. You can delete from "recent" on the Android app, but only delete from "frequent" on pc.

It is a permanent delete from your Food Diary. Perhaps you missed some entries from some past days. You have to find every time you entered each unwanted food item and delete it from the Food Diary. If you added the same item to multiple meal slots, such as both Lunch and Dinner, and only deleted them from Lunch, the query will find them in Dinner and display those results, if you have your settings set to display items from All Meals.

Okay, so maybe the best thing to do is eliminate EVERYTHING and start over. Thank you! I'll let you know if this lasts more than 24 hours.

Well, maybe I am misunderstanding the term "Food Diary." I read the article you suggested and the only way to see the little red button is to go back to previous days. Are you saying I have to go back to every single day and delete everything a day at a time? If that's the only way to do it, I think I will just scratch the whole thing and start over with a new account! So instead, how do I kill an account?!

If you simply eat your new list of foods, you'll slowly push your old foods off your search results.

I would recommend to just ignore those foods for right now. The Recent list on the web version just pulls and displays the last 100 items that were logged in your Food Diary by individual meal slot or by all meal slots, depending on your setting, which you can toggle. Those items will eventually get replaced in the Recent List query by the more recent ones.

There are food items surrounding me throughout the day, either right in front of me, or advertised on TV or the internet. I just ignore those. It's what I did when I needed to lose weight, and I continue to do now while maintaining. I choose to eat some of them, but in a small quantity when I can fit them into my daily Calorie budget.

In order to delete the food item from showing up in the Recent List query, you have to go back to every day they are logged and delete them. Every last one of them. The web version does not make that easy.

It is easier on the mobile apps, which allow you to select multiple items or an entire day of past logged food items, then delete the entire selection or day. You would still have to go back to every day and delete every last one of the unwanted items.

The final option is to deactivate your account.

Thank you all so much for your assistance. If ignoring will eventually knock them out, that works. As you say, we call that Life! Happy New Year!!
