Thyroid issues

Anyone else here take thyroid medicine. I'm on 112mg of levothyroxine having trouble losing and doing everything right. Any way to rev up metabolism or additional vitamin supplement to take. Going to have levels checked again in about a week. Just seems slower on this medicine. I have to take it bad had thyroid removal last year.

I am on levothyroxine also. I do find it harder to lose weight as well. Please feel free to add me.

Hypothyroid for years here and lost 80 pounds while undiagnosed and on levothyroxine. It is possible to lose weight while hypo. I have a few questions for you: How long have you been trying to lose weight? How much have you lost during that time? How are you logging your food? It sounds like you are well controlled with meds?

I'm on 175/200 mcg alternating daily.

I had a total thyroidectomy back in 2000. I bought into much of the bad information out there and ended up putting on ~70 lbs over the next 14 years. None of this was due to my thyroid, but everything to do with my transitioning from a high active military career to a cushy life in academia. I found MFP in 2014 and lost 60 lbs the first year gradually decreasing my intake and increasing my activity.

Hypothyroid has very little impact on your metabolism. What this may impact is your appetite and satiety triggers, which is why calorie counting is so effective.

I'm on 50 mg levothyroxine, I have been for 3 years, and ever since I started this app (452 days ago) I lost 92 lbs, and still going. I don't really notice it posing an issue (other than that I get constipated more often than not due to it), but my condition isn't as severe as yours, so you have to take that into account.
The only "supplement" I take that, I suppose, aids my weight loss is a syrup to help get things moving.

I'm on 125 mcg of synthroid and have been for years. I have lost over 100 pounds. I probably lose a bit slower than most but walking gives my metabolism a boost. That seems to help and improves my mood. It can be done and there are alot of us on here that have lost even though we are on meds for low thyroid.

Sorry to hear about the thyroid removal. Hopefully not cancer which is why I had to have mine removed. I am on a thyroid cancer group on FB and many people have been swearing by the keto diet. I just started 01/01/18 and have alot to learn but I have lost about 4 pounds. Granted i did exercise 2 of those days but I hope it works. I am also considering asking my Dr to switch me to a natural thyroid med as I have been researching and discovered Levo had lots of fillers that can cause weight gain

I have hypothyroidism as well and take medicine too. Luckily for me it hasn’t affected weight loss but from what I've been told there are a few different levels to check and one of them are related to slower metabolism l, maybe T3? Check with your doctor if they haven’t already done the full panel blood test. Also if you’re not seeing a thyroid specialist i would recommend that over a general practitioner just for the specialization.

Good luck i hope it all works out for you!

I'm on 300 mcg of levothyroxine. I haven't noticed the thyroid situation causing trouble with weight loss. But I'm also on some psych meds that seem to promote weight loss so maybe it all balances out.

Well I'm due to have blood work done in about a week or so to test levels. I know I indulged a bit over holidays then got really sick with the cold/flu going around. Only ate soups and they have a lot of sodium so gained a few. Now better and back on track will see how this goes. Maybe levels are off to will find out soon

Definitely make sure your doc checks T3/T4 in addition to TSH.

That said, I'm another hypothyroid person (on 175mcg levo) who's lost successfully once I found the necessary calorie level . . . and I'm age 62, post-menopausal, besides. Down 50+ pounds, and maintaining a healthy weight for two years since.

Weight loss isn't necessarily easy for anyone, hypo or not . . . but it can be mechanically pretty simple for most people - including hypothyroid people - with the right process in place.
