challenge yourself. Take all your old favourite recipes that have meat and make them meatless and tasty.

Are you a vegetarian for a reason? I am not a vegetarian, but I go vegetarian quite often because Its not hard to get a daily dose of protein. But if you are a strict vegetarian, be careful not to get deficient. I know a strict vegetarian who is over weight a little but she slim down some what after exercising regularly.

Beans of all types are great source protein and fiber. Cheese. Nuts. Certain grains like quintoa are an excellent source of protein. Peanut butter. Almond butter. Low or fat free milk products. Peas.

I am a flexitarian but I have gone meatless for long stretches of times. Last was a year. During that time I researched vegetarian and veganism. There are hundreds books at your library I advise you start there plus any festivals in your area is good too.
There are tons of fruits and vegetables just waiting to be devoured by you. You just gotta get our there and try them all. I mean cook in different ways too. Seitan, tempah (sp), soy, beans, lentils and much more. be careful of the patties etc because they contain a lot of sodium.
Also try many international cookbooks. Many cultures are vegetarian like certain parts of India and Thailand and some Muslim cultures so seek out their cookbooks They tend to cook with a lot of flavor without extra calories.
Happy veggie eating! Your world opened up!
  • Keep in mind that side portions of veggies/grains have just doubled. You need to get used to your plate looking different. Some good books:

    5 Ingredient Vegetarian Recipes
Fresh From the Vegetarian Slower Cooker
Complete Vegetarian Cookbook by Charmaine Solomon

There are also lots of blogs you can read.

Post Punk Kitchen is a good site, but all vegan

I like looking up recipes on food.com

If you need specific advice on how to vegetarianize a recipe, feel free to send me a message. I cook a lot, and I'm going on 9 years vegetarian.
  • I'm a vegetarian and I found chooseveg.com, morningstarfarms.com, and the PETA website very helpful. Morningstar has alot of simple recipes if you don't have alot of time and chooseveg has videos you can watch w/ certain recipes......
