I do just plain crunches and would like to get some tips or recommendations on a great workout to help tone up my tummy. I had my baby 9 months ago and I still look like I'm pregnant. Thanks in advanced!
Cheers!

I use a swissball/fitball to build my core muscles after having 2 kids. I have been doing them for about 6 mnths now and I notice a huge difference. I will try to look up the proper names and post back. The trainer in my gym told me to do them.

I also do a circuit programme in the gym now and that's great for toning your tummy also and my lovehandles.

That would be awesome and most appreciated, thanks! Great tip about circuit program, i'm hating my lovehandles!!!
  • the best way to tone your stomach is to decrease body fat in general. it has nothing to do with ab work. you can to one million crunches a day and have the strongest abs in the world, but if there is fat over the muscle it won't look toned. many pro bodybuilders don't even do any direct ab work until they get close to an event.

I do a 30 min intense abs class at the gym which includes like a million differnt kind of crunches, curls and twists and really hurts lol
Pilates has been really good for me too, and a Tae Bo DVD I've got is great for strengthening your core (PS I only have this because it was in a pound store, but it was worth every penny lol)

  • During one of my challenges this week I was told to do side bends with weights, so I did and held 7.5 lb weights when i did it. I didn't feel a darn thing the whole time and figured they weren't very effective...but darn if I wasn't hurting the next day. So I've kept it up every day since and am seeing my waist more now.

I'd love to know more about the front lower part of my abs...that's my biggest problem.

Present: kickboxing 3 x per week with heavy bags, and 15 min Abs afterwards (planks, side planks, p90x, bycicles,... there is no limit to the routine).

Postpartum 2 years ago: I did the c-section work (in the post partum book) and light abs after 6 weeks as usual - That gave me the six-pack back 2 months after delivery.

I don't believe in doing countless crunches. There are so many other exercises you can do that work a lot better. Core fusion is a great DVD series, and pilates really gets your abs in shape. I do Ab ripper X 3-4 times a week, and I do pilates everyday. I haven't done a basic crunch in almost a year, and my tummy looks better than it has since I gave birth to my first kid almost 6 years ago. Also try planks. They are great.

Yoga 2-3 times a week and Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred 6-7 times a week. When I'm stronger and lighter I plan to add a pilates class or two into the mix.
