The first covers accurate logging and some of the tools in MFP to help you make things easier. The second discusses caloric needs and setting goals. These two posts completely changed my MFP experience and helped me be much more successful, so I hope they do the same for you.
Try not to overthink it too much, eat a variety of foods you enjoy, at times that work for you, start tracking and make small adjustments until you are able to fit into your daily calorie goal. Don't do anything too crazy you can't stick to long term, it will not pay off in the long run. There are tons of great recipe ideas on the recipe boards if you need some ideas:
