too much salad?

is a big salad a good thing or a bad thing? baby greens, baked boneless/skinless chicken thigh, mushrooms, and a whole (small) avocado with Brianna's poppy seed dressing. I know I should have only eaten half of that avocado but then the rest would be ruined in the fridge. (see how my mental is thinking of how not to waste so I end up eating the whole avocado!) Help me think skinny.

...........why would that be bad...? If it fits your calories your fine10

How many calories was it? Sounds like it was nutritious, but unless you figure out its caloric content, you won't be able to put it in perspective.8
-
It's neither good nor bad...depends on context and whether or not you're hitting your calorie targets. Generally speaking, eating a lot of vegetables is typically a healthful thing to do...7
-
because when I logged it in...it was over 200 calories for a small avocado. just wishing I had the willpower to only eat half! lol thanks for the reply2

Avocado is a wonderful nutrition-dense food. It is true that half an avocado is about the right amount for a meal of any kind. You can cut them in half and put the second half in a sandwich zip-lock with some lemon juice. It works well, although it tastes like lemon the next day.
Another way to get avocado in your diet is to buy Wholley Guacamole minis (reg or spicy), which are perfect for a single serving of about 100kcals. You can get them at Costco in bulk and freeze them. Put into a lunch box, they thaw nicely by noon.

when I cut an avocado in half, I leave the pit in one side and I wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge. It keeps pretty well that way. Then when I want to use it I take the pit out and if there's any blackening on the very top of it I'll cut that part off but you still got pretty much the whole avocado that is still good.12

If you found it satisfying and the calories were right for how much it filled you up, a good thing.
On the avocado, I very often have half an avocado with breakfast and I put the remainder it in a plastic bag (with the pit in it) and squeeze it with lemon or lime if I have one (if not, I don't), and it's fine the next day. On the other hand, sometimes I have the rest later that same day too. So no harm eating it all, but it will save.6 -
Between March and October last year I got in a bit of a habit of buying 12 sausages, frying them, and eating them with 12 slices of thickly buttered bread made into 6 sandwiches with tomato sauce, I'd have that midday, after breakfast and before pasta in the evening and 8 cans of cider....I think one avacado is OK.13

When I cut an avocado in half I will scoop out whatever I want to eat and then fit the two halves back together and wrap in plastic wrap. Yes they get a little brown/dark but that does not mean they’ve gone bad.

Don’t judge me too harshly, but I throw the other half away. I know, it’s wasteful as heck. But if it’s $1.50 per avocado I’m only throwing 75 cents into the garbage. I’m essentially paying to stay within my calorie allowance but it’s worth it to me.9

I don't know anything about the dressing you used other than the name. Personally I'd have a big bunch of all that stuff in a salad and use no dressing, and be quite pleased with the meal. I had it at a restaurant a couple of days ago.3

thats be over 20$ wasted in a month if someone did that daily. Thats alot to me when i could just have a very slightly less fresh half later on I buy frozen for this reason though lol9 -
That sounds like an amazing salad to be honest. What I usually do when I half an avocado is keep it in a zip lock bag and think of ways I can use it in the next few days so it doesn't go to waste - also an avocado is still okay to eat if it's a little brown.
You have nothing to worry about. As long as it fitted within your calorie deficit you're okay.2 -
You know you can freeze avocado. They make great additions to smoothies that way:)5
-
My philosophy on food is it's gone either way. If you eat both sides of the avocado, then it's gone. If you eat one side and the other gets bad and you throw it away, it's gone. So you have to decide if you want it gone in the garbage or gone in your body, adding additional calories to your daily caloric intake.5

There is no problem if it was tasty, filling and fit your calorie goal.4

I invested $8 in avocado saver from Williams Sonoma - as everyone noted, the key is to leave the pit in.

Avocados are great foods. As long as your salad fits in your calorie goal - it's perfect. I'm always more concerned about the calories in my salad dressing.4

An excellent investment that pays real dividends! Somewhat less sophisticated is this one from Amazon:

I have a couple of them, but I have found that it's about as good to put them in a sandwich bag with a little lemon juice (e.g., from a squeeze bottle).2 -
i eat big salads all the time.2

Eat whatever you enjoy as long as it fits in your calories.1

I just ate a taco salad which would have fed 4, I reckon. Fit my calories, was delicious, I'm happy.7

I mean... does it fit your calories? I eat massive salads. My dinners this week (I preplan) are bbq Caesar salad (the meat I throw on varies between pork or chicken but I use about 10oz) and come in just under 800 calories.
It’s delicious, filling and easy.
If it fits your calories just eat it a don’t freak out.3 -
Salad with lots of yummy plants=good
avocado=good
YUM!
In addition to leafy greens my lunch salad had blue cheese crumbles, an egg, some nuts, some chick peas, and a half an avocado2 -
As far as avocados go, I use half quite often! I leave the pit in one side, wrap in plastic wrap as tight as I can, then put the whole thing in a Ziploc baggie in the fridge. Usually it keeps a day with very little browning, and if I do get a little I just scrape it off.2
-
I have to add that I did stop eating huge salads at the salad bar for lunch due to digestive issues. I have found that smaller salads are fine.0
-
Sounds delicious! But since I only have 1200 calories to work with for the day, so I would change mine up a bit by having either the whole avocado, or the chicken, but not both, and using a no-fat dressing. I just finished eating my dinner salad: baby spinach, tuna, hardboiled egg, lo-cal ranch dressing, and a sprinkle of fresh grated parmesan cheese. I have a salad for lunch or dinner most days. You're fine with your salad, as long as it fits in with your daily calorie goal.0

i use the wholly guac minis and they are just perfect- love a good salad or even a good mix of various veggies- so wonderful
