If your into your juice there is an awesome programme on Netflix... think it's available on you tube as well. Called 'Fat sick and nearly dead ' strange title but really worth a watch...41

I have done some in the past. Three days probably won't do much UNLESS you are overweight and eat a lot of calories. When I was normal weight a juice fast would sort of make me feel different afterwards--like rejuvenated--but I wouldn't lose weight--probably because in three days I was consuming a decent amount of calories--perhaps not my TDEE but not so much of a deficit that in 3 days I would have cut 3500 calories.
When overweight I did a few juice fasts/cleanses, including one that pretty famous run by a person who has a documentary about it. Not going to name names. I did lose a lot of weight while doing it but, it isn't sustainable--has nothing in it that deals with maintenance and I actually was fatter when I regained than before the juice fast! FWIW I also ate raw and cooked fruits/vegetables in addition to the juices. The longest one I did was 15 days, which I did twice--eating raw and cooked fruits/vegetables and juices. I wouldn't recommend it UNLESS you are trying to go vegan and that is what you will mostly be eating anyway. As an overweight person it cut my calories significantly (since before was eating over 3000 calories--I wasn't counting then but once I started on MFP I realized what my caloric intake was hovering around and that is more than any normal TDEE for my height) so I did lose weight. However, I went back to eating "normally" afterwards and it rebounded back.0 -
Hi, there's quite a bit of negativity here so I'll put my 2 pence in. I'm on my tenth day and it's going great. 14lb lighter and not at all hungry. Energy levels are up and I am still training 2-3 hours a day. If you go for it be prepared for a very rough couple of days at the beginning. This is in the form of headashes and a touch of Hanger worth it though.
Not for everyone but I don't regret it at all.

Juice cleanses are bogus and don't do anything beneficial. Unless starving yourself is something you enjoy, I guess they're okay enough for that, but they don't "cleanse" anything and they're not good for anything about your body or health.8 -
I wouldn't do a "Cleanse" my own body is capable of that but I do get some cold pressed fresh juices locally if I'm feeling a bit sluggish. They certainly seem like a shot in the arm some days. No intention of living off them.1

you'll never know until you try it....I don't see the harm as long as you are not starving yourself. go for it! Sometimes you need to give your body a little kick start.36

Juicing only, will definitely make your pancreas very overworked. Nothing to slow the glucose entering your bloodstream. It's also extremely expensive and a waste of good food. if you need to consume to get you to take your veggies then do smoothies. Takes less produce to make, contains all the fiber and if you use fruit, they can be a good sub for milkshakes, but too much fruit might still negatively impact blood sugar and therefore weight loss.20

I did Jason Vales 5-day juice cleanse. I bought the book, downloaded the app, and thought this was going to be the thing that kickstarted my diet.
Physically I felt fine over the five days, maybe a little hungry. It was a pain having to prepare so much fruit/veg and clean the juicer several times a day. The pineapple juice burned my mouth. I fantasised about eating solid food and kept thinking about what I was going to eat at the end of the 5-days, which felt like 5 weeks. I lost about 10lbs which was obviously water weight and as soon as I stopped the weight all came back.6 -

What makes you think your body needs a kick start? What exactly needs kick starting and how does it work?7 -
Juice is great if you like it and allow for the calories.
Ditto smoothies,gravy and any other liquid foods.. I do like soup in winter myself
But as PART of a balanced diet - not by themselves and not with any magic attached (detoxing, cleansing, kick starting)
Having said that, 3 days won't hurt you. it wont do you any good either but at least it is harmless enough.6 -

Your blood sugar has no impact on weight loss.10 -
Hmmm...I'm on day 2 of a store bought 3 day juice "cleanse". It works for me for different reasons - not the perceived health benefits so much as the psychological benefits. First, I love pressed juice and it's a part of my life, but nearly impossible for me to find the time to fit juicing into my lifestyle. So I usually only buy it. Second, I was falling off the healthy wagon in a big way, and needed a kick in the a** to get going again. And third, I need a concrete excuse to cut back on my dAily coffee and wine habits.
My juice cleanse is heavy on the veggies and actually includes a good sized (solid!) salad at the end of the day, totals ~1100 calories, and they recomend nuts/fruit/veggies if I get hangry. I've done it before with home-pressed juice. In the end, I won't have lost weight, but I'll be refocussed and my liver will be thanking me for the vacation from wine.
So I think - don't rely on it for any miraculous health benefits, don't live on juice, but don't completely discount the benefits. Sometimes it's your brain that needs the kickstart, not your body.17 -

You will starve I sometimes have a smoothie for breakfast or even lunch, but I always have a big dinner just to keep myself from not being hungry and possibly binging.2

There's nothing you can't get from a juice cleanse that you can't get from just eating fruits. If anything, the juices are worse because of added sugars, the fruits are ol' natural.

even regular salt will do the trick. chug some warm salt water and prepare to be cleansed and flushed. do not make plans.5 -

3 days won't do a lot and if it's just to lose weight it's pointless. My wife developed Fibromyalgia 3 or so years ago. An important part of her healing (she's pretty much recovered now) was fresh juicing. When people think of juice, they think of fruit. We used mostly veggies. Cabbage is amazing for stomach health. For years, prisons used cabbage juice to heal ulcers. Cabbage juice kills h Pylori, which causes peptic ulcers (so does potato juice, oddly enough). We used cabbage, cucumbers and celery for the "base" - so much for raising glucose - very little sugar or calories. We'd add in fresh ginger, turmeric root (both fantastic for inflammation), cilantro for heavy metals (mixed science on it but we've had luck with it), and spinach or kale. We might add in a bit of pineapple core (a natural digestive enzyme).
We try to eat a WFPB (whole food, plant-based) diet. We strive for six/seven cups of veggies a day, which is really hard to do without juicing adding three/four servings of vegetables. There are also a lot of specific benefits things like cabbage give you (sulforaphane is amazing for you and been proven to assist in the activation of the Keap1-Nrf2 Pathway -- which is a major factor in reducing oxidative stress and DNA damage). Also, fresh juicing reduces the amount in landfills. We juice broccoli stems, cabbage cores, beet greens, pineapple cores and many things that people normally just throw away.
Most will say eat the fiber, but there's honestly no way we could blend all of these veggies up and drink them (four servings is around 3 lbs of veggies). Plus, we get tons of fiber any way throughout the day. Fresh juicing serves a purpose and it certainly doesn't have to be loaded with sugar. We'd also sometimes add lemon or lime to make it more palatable. Losing weight loss quickly isn't a great reason to fresh juice if you only are planning on doing it a few days. Not a difference maker. Perhaps helping a damaged microbiome heal? Perhaps if done for a while (like a couple of months). I'd say it's better than breakfast cookies, pop tarts, and all the other horrific garbage out there. I've tried to make our green juice in a Ninja and a NutraBullet. Not drinkable. Nasty. It does taste good, though, juiced. Find me a Nutrabullet recipe that doesn't have a ton of fruit. We don't use apples, bananas, etc. in our juice.
As for price, we juice for around 5 days a week (2 decent sized servings each for two people) roughly for around $25. Much less than Starbucks.7 -
