I rinse it with water before putting the half in a bag in the fridge. It works just as well as lemon juice without the flavor.

I travel on my job on an expense account but have learned to avoid regularly restaurant eating if I have any interest in maintaining or losing weight. Grocery salad bars have become my mainstay. I usually eat massive salads at lunch, nearly 1.5 pounds net weight and have run them through the MFP recipe calculator. They come out to around 350-400 calories and 20+ grams fiber (plenty filling). Key for me is avoiding salad dressing and prepared options (potato salad, imitation crab salad, pasta salads etc.). Instead I'll add some berries (pomegranate seeds, blueberries, raspberries, etc.) and a sprinkle of raw pumpkin seeds for texture. I also enjoy avocados but limit them to an occasional one, not a daily item. Like you I hate to waste food and would rather eat a whole one than throw a half away, just make it something you do as an infrequent treat.

No such thing as too much salad. I will easily eat a kilo of it in a day. The killer is what you add to that salad other than vegetables. That is where calories can hit hard.

Don't get so hung up on the calories of one item. You just need to make sure they fit within your CICO numbers. Avocados are good for you and quite satisfying to everyone I know who eats them. I wish I liked them, but I don't.

Theoretically, you can sit there and eat an entire pizza and a bag of potato chips as long as they stay within your CICO. Of course, I wouldn't recommend that. LOL
