Eating the right food

Options
Hi all,

I have been suffering from chronic stomach complications / IBS for a long time now so I've decided I really need to do something about it as it's been getting worse.

I stopped eating and only eat very little as my stomach the past month has been quite bad.

I have started going to the gym and doing exercise but I feel I'm just not eating enough or the right things.

My account says today I have consumed 1003 calories, but I have burnt around 600 of active calories today (according to my apple watch). It just isn't enough food.

I need to find the right things to eat to lose weight, stay healthy and that is light on the stomach. Any advice? Maybe I should see a nutrition expert?

Last line is a yes, but I'd start with your doctor.

This. And ask your doctor for a referral to a registered dietician. Those are the people with education and credentials. "Nutritionist", in most places, is a title anyone can claim.

Yeah don’t take the advice of strangers (albeit incredibly well meaning and lovely!) over a trained medical professional. Get to your PCP and possibly a referral to gastroent. Once you have a diagnosis and a treatment plan you can start looking at foods to include/exclude.

I empathize with you. I've had my share of stomach troubles, so I will share what has worked for me. I logged everything I put in my mouth and then notated when the stomach trouble was worse or better. Then I slowly started eliminating suspect foods from my diet to see how that affected me. Keep in mind that it may be more than one food. Also, as others mentioned, you may want to see your doctor.

Thanks all. I have seen my doctor many times over this and have had tests but nothing found. I am being referred back now to the specialist in regards to the chronic stomach problems.

I am just looking to try and eat better and loose weight to see if it will help (and I believe it probably will). I'll look at seeing a nutrition expert as I need to balance the right foods for me at the same time to loose weight.

you might want to try FODMAP to see if that highlights any foods to eliminate from your diet.

also, i wouldn't do extra exercise if you cant fuel it properly.

I suffer with IBS and for years it has been debilitating to the point I couldn't get out of bed. I have had a repeat prescription for painkillers which gave me my life back last 2 years and will probably take them forever.
I still have flare ups but not as bad.

Things I found helped me are : Fodmap book and religiously writing food diary.
I have discovered that my worst flare ups are caused by: dairy, spicy food and citrus fruits.

Eating too much fiber had me doubled in pain. So even though alot of diet 'healthy food plans suggest lots of fibre, brown bread etc I found that that really aggravates me but I am absolutely fine with white bread and rice.

I 've found out which veg I'm ok with:green beans, carrots, sweet potato and which I can't even touch:cabbage, brocolli etc..

I know it's frustrating and it took me 3 years to be diagnosed but maybe try some of this like keeping a diary and writing everything you eat/drink until you find a pattern and as long as you have some fruit and veg in your diet don't worry about what you "should " be eating .
Soluble fibre also such as oats I found I'm fine with ( and its better for IBS than insoluble) its alot of trial and error but it can be managed .

These are the things that worked for me but it's varies for everyone.
Sorry for the essay but hope you get some relief feel free to add me and message me if you want.

Have you seen an allergist? You may have allergies.
