Hey there! My name is Brandon and I’m about 195lbs right now. My goal is to drop to 170lbs to make weight for my Muay Thai fight coming up. I’ve never been that low in weight before in my adult life so I’m looking for tips and cardio work outs that are enjoyable to help me lose the weight by April. Thanks all!

@Loopers242 I moved this to the fitness and exercise boards in hopes you will get more responses here0

What does your coach/trainer recommend? Diet will be more important for weight loss than exercise but you'll need both for your fight. 20lbs in 3 months is quite doable but I'm not sure how it will affect your fighting since that seems to be quite a cut for a bout.0

My Kru says the diet and exercise is up to me so I’m making up a meal plan and exercise routine to show him. I’m a big guy so dropping down to that weight will hopefully give me an advantage.0

So you have a reach advantage I assume but you'll lose muscle and you'll have reduced your glycogen stores so you might be more susceptible to gassing out in later rounds. I guess for a local amateur fight it's probably not going to be a huge issue but it might be a little too quick.
For your cardio I would do a lot of both HIIT, like wind sprints, and road work of 5-10 miles 3 to 5 times a week. Add in some kettlebell training and cross training for good measure. That should help build both endurance and explosiveness and mess well with your fighting training on the bag and in the ring etc.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.1 -
Thanks a lot! I’ll start right away.0
