Elliptical miscalculation

I don't think that MFP is calculating my burned calories right on the elliptical. For one thing I know I burn less since my weight isn't that much but for some reason MFP overestimates the number of calories I burned. I know this because I calculated it myself and it doesn't match with MFP at all. I did the other excersies like walking and I don't know if the number of calories is burned is right or wrong. Can someone plz help me out here.

A lot of people find that MFP overestimates calories burned through exercise. Your safest option is to eat back 50% of what it says, or go with what you estimated.

Both MFP and the machines themselves are quite inaccurate when it comes to calculating calorie burns. I ignore them completely.

I find my treadmill overestimates my calories burned so I just log in my steps per day

which is why you dont eat back all the calories mfp gives you. i log only half of what i exercise and know i can eat those if i want (so if i work out an hour, i log 30 minutes)

    It's all estimation...

Walking is a pretty easy calculation though...

    .30*body weight*distance

    Running...

    .63*body weight*distance

    Those two are pretty accurate.

Anything a machine or database spits out is going to be a very general estimate...

    Is distance in miles?

Yes, and eight in lbs. Easy to convert to kg and km though.
