Hey everyone! My new job has me there all the time. Im trying desperately not to run to some fast food joint when im on break everyday. I think mixing up my bag lunch will help. Suggestions are much appreciated!

  • I love spinach salads; they only run 7 cal. per cup. I recommend a spinach salad with tomato, pepper and fat free feta cheese on top.

I take the ainsley harriott cous cous bags with me, easy to make up with boiling water when at work......chicken and bacon salads.....if you have cooking facilities then jacket potatoes are good......mixed berries and seeds are good fuel and fill you up :)

i also take salads but get tired of the same thing. i recently started microwaving a frozen boca burger in the morning and packing all the fixings then reheat the burger and put it all together at lunch time. very fast and yummy!! lots of fruit goes into my lunch bag also. good luck.

I really love carrot and celery sticks with either a little bit of peanut butter or a greek dip. Deli meat roll-ups are really good, too, but they can be really high in salt. If you wanted, you could buy a really cute bento lunch box and fill it up with fruits, veggies, a sandwich, salad, some nuts, or other little things like that.
  • I've started making Healthy Choice Soup or Eating Right Soup, apples, occasionally a banana, Bumblebee Fat Free Tuna/Crackers part of my "don't run out for fast food" lunch choices. The soup and tuna can be kept at room temp til used, so I keep a supply at work. I just have to remember to grab the apple on the way out the door in the morning.

I have my desk packed with Almonds, oatmeal, special K cereal, special K bars, apples and usually I bring left over dinners which are always low calorie (i look up new recipes online and make a meal plan for the week. I dont always stick to it but I find that I do not resort to fast food or even the vending machine anymore _ i just make sure my drawer is stuffed with things that will help me make a better choice -- easy access is the problem and the solution. It's easy to get fast food but its easier to look in my desk and find something I want if I have it on hand

i have access to a fridge, but there isn't always room in it. i use the lunch sized freezer gel packs. they work really well.

When I make picnic I usually take a pot of humous and a cup of cucumber sticks, lots of fruit, and maybe a bounce ball (protein energy bars) in case I get hungry.
  • ooo Hummus sounds great!

My favorite lunch is a salad...
    1 chopped roma tomato
    1/2 cup garbanzo beans
3 oz chicken breast or 1 serving of chopped lean lunchmeat
    2 cups romaine lettuce
4 tablespoons of buttermilk sprinkled with a little salt and some black pepper

accompanied by a piece of fruit for carbohydrates.

It is full of protein, vitamins and fiber and keeps me feeling both full and fresh for hours. I found that I love just plain old buttermilk with salt and pepper as a salad dressing. I was thrilled! It has SO MUCH less fat and calories than regular dressing, but is still creamy/sour/good.

Despite the bad rap that bread gets, there is nothing wrong with just a sandwich :-) On whole grain wheat bread (here in the Netherlands we get fresh breads without preservatives which is wonderful!) I use sliced chicken breast (either self made or packaged), sliced cucumber, and light Philadelphia cream cheese (with herbs) and lettuce. It is one of my standards on non-salad days! I will always have a fruit snack in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon too - apple, banana, or clementines for example.
    Cheers, Christy
