Running shoes are very individual, what works for one person would cause pain for another.
Being fitted by a specialist running shoe shop is the best start but even then it’s what feels right, that is the main consideration.
To reduce knee pain I would suggest not doing too much running if you are starting out, gradual mileage increase is the key.
A rule of thumb is add 10 percent per week.
Strength training will also help prevent knee pain.
I find having a race to train for helps me stay motivated.

I hope you find running as joyful as I have done.

You need to get got for shoes. What is best for me is not necessarily best for you.

Are you stretching thoroughly after you run? Are you following C25K or just running?

Get fitted for shoes and don't increase your mileage too quickly. The only thing that has ever caused me knee pain is increasing my mileage too quickly.

Yes to what everyone else has said. Start short and slow and gradually increase mileage AND build in rest days. Do not run every day, in fact, when you first start don't run more often than every other day. As for shoes, as others have said, go to a good specialty running store and get fitted for a good pair of running shoes. Expect to spend some $$$ but it is worth it.

Have you gotten knee pain before? If so, get your running form checked by a sports physical therapist, or at least a running coach.

Excess weight can cause knee pain. If you're overweight, it might be wise to lose weight before running. Work up to a brisk 45 min walk first. Then Follow a program like c25k. Consider warming up with10-20 each front, reverse, and side lunges, in addition to any walking or stretching.
