I am on this medication that really decreases my appetite, and it wasn't until today that I started feeling it's major effects... My appetite is not there. I mostly have to force myself to eat something but even that is hard because, I seem to only want certain things, and I don't feel I can stomach eating something that I am not in the mood for. I mostly seem to be able to eat carbs and sweet things.. everything else is so unappealing :( I tried eating some pork tenderloin earlier but just couldn't bring myself to do it..... There is barely any food in the house that I would eat. If there were, it'd all be carbs and fruit that I'd be eating, which is not good. Any ideas anyone? Please help. I don't want my body to go into starvation mode. I am reluctant to go to the gym because that just means more calories that I need to eat.

Talk to your doctor. If it'sto the point you can't even force yourself to eat different things, you need to speak to your doctor. Maybe that's just not the right medication for you

I was sick for a while and the illness made it hard to eat, and then the medication also had the side effect of appetite loss. SUCKED.

First, how long will you be on this medication? You won't go into starvation mode over a day, or even a week. It's a long-term thing. So unless this is a permanent medication, don't freak out. However, also don't get too excited if you see a huge loss from not eating. It will probably come back when you start eating again. If this is a permanent or long-term medication though, talk to your doctor about getting an appetite stimulant.

Second: protein shakes are your friend. I never wanted to drink them, but after a week of not eating I was desperate for something. So I bought some cheap protein powder at the store. I mixed it with half a cup of plain yogurt, a cup of milk, and if I felt like I could drink more than a glass, I'd blend in some frozen fruit. It really helped keep my energy up and kept my body somewhat nourished even when I couldn't eat.

I totally agree. If the medication is causing that severe of a side effect -- it is time to talk to your doctor. Perhaps there is a lower dose you can try?

Can you drink something? You can pack a lot of calories into a smoothie. Not a long term solution, I know, but until you can get back in to see your doctor, it might help. You can take a banana, a quarter cup of vanilla yogurt, a quarter cup of milk, and 2 tablespoons of peanut butter for an approximately 400 calorie 'meal'. Good luck!

What type of protein powder did you use? Was it good? I bought one and cannot even smell it because it just doesn't agree with me..

This medication is meant to be long term. I called my doctor and told her the side effects I have been having besides no appetite and she decided to decrease my dose.. but the medication is meant to be a lasting thing, yeah

I bought Pure Protein chocolate flavor. It's not awesome, but it's not terrible, and if I mix it with frozen cherries it's pretty good. Can you drink Carnation Instant Breakfast, or one of the Slim Fast smoothies? Anything? And there are different flavors of protein powder. It doesn't smell good out of the jug, for sure, but try mixing it up before you give up on it.
