Five Fingers Question

I recently started the C25K and I've rediscovered my love of running. I've thought about trying five fingers for a while, as I prefer to do everything barefoot. I ride our exercise bike barefoot and if I lift weights at home I prefer to do it barefoot. I've even ran on the treadmill barefoot, but the texture hurts the bottom of my feet. Anyways, my question is: is there anything I need to do in order to smoothly transition from regular running shoes to five fingers? Also, any tips/advice from people who have or currently use them would be great! I won't be able to afford them for at least another month, but I'd like to go ahead and do some research/get others opinions before then. Thanks everyone!

You might try those shoes that have the toes built in. That might be a good transition from shoes to bare.

You need to transition into them slowly. Your feet are weak from being bound up in shoes. You want to run short distances in them at first. As your feet get used to them, you can run further and further in them. I have done 3 road half marathons in mine, but I am afraid to wear them on the trails. When I was doing my first 50K, I stubbed my toe and literally tore the big toenail off at the cuticle. Had I been wearing these shoes, I would have broken my toe or maybe my foot. That being said, I know a LOT of trail runners that wear them and love them. I ran a trail race a few weeks ago with a guy that was full on barefoot!! We were running through a gravelly section. I asked him if it hurt. He said "yeah"! LOL!!

i love love love my pair!!!!!! im a bare foot person myself and a friend of mine who is a shoaholic has 4 pairs told me about them, i was a little nervous at first, im not one to wear different things or bring attention to me. but i wanted to try them. i got a pair that was a bit to small so i sent it back and got the right size and they fit great. it was hard getting my baby toe in at first but once in i was good to go. i wore them to work for 8 hours and no problem. i work in a school so it wasnt to much stress on my feet but i wanted to break them in. my first real test was disney world. i worn them all around and probably walked 5 miles that day. not one problem. my feet were comfortable and the they were light on my feet. i loved that even in the june florida weather my feet were not hot.
