Does anyone have any advice for how to get motivated again after a lull of not exercising?

I've had a bit of ill health recently and I'm getting back into it gradually. I'm doing a 'moderate' cycle on my stationary bike and hopefully tricking myself into thinking 'What are you being a weakling for?! C'monnn!' and I think it might be working. Don't push yourself too hard cause you'll just give up again. Maybe exercise like you did at the start and then try and convince yourself to pick it up again. Hope you get back into it soon!

Set yourself some goals and look at what the positive benefits are if you do.

The only way I've been able to get back into it after a lull is to just do it. Make myself. I've noticed that once I get on the treadmill, I instantly feel better and I'm glad I got on. And after a few days/a week, I'm feeling really good and don't need so much motivation anymore to just do it.
  • I've been working on losing weight for a year now, but at maybe 50-75% of my ability to try.

Best thing I can say is to set a goal, stick to it. If you say you're going to go to the gym 3x a week, DO IT. If you're going to track exactly what you eat, even if you're having a bad food day, DO IT.

Always be honest, push yourself hard, and turn to friends. That's what MFP Buddies are for :)

What finally got me motivated was the realization that, while I have always been the "skinny" friend (relative term, as I'm at 215lbs), my best friend just lost 25 pounds. Time to kick my butt, before she does! Competition always drives me!

Have a plan, stick to the plan. Incorporate rest.
