HI everyone
I stopped smoking in the middle of June (8 weeks stopped now) and have managed to put on a stone in weight. That coupled with my recent 40 heath check and it is time to lose the weight and cut out the saturated fat, (my cholesterol level is 5.7). Ive just found this site while looking for the sat fat content/calories of stuff im making at home and what a relief, no more carrying bits of paper to record what im eating and trying to work it all out! Thank you :-)
I would love some advice for cutting out snacking and have low calorie meals that will fill me, with having stopped smoking. It has become a habit to snack in the last few weeks and some chocolate digestives have gone a long way, but the nurse says these are not good, hence the cholesterol level!
Both my partner and i need to cut the fat, although he doesnt need to lose the weight. We also have a 12 year old and I need to cut stuff out without putting his calories out, he is tall and skinny and very active and i have felt really bad not buying crisps and/or biscuits (for my temptation!) that he could have. He doesnt eat fruit but will eat veg no problem.
I am managing to fit in 20 mins exercise a day with zumba 2x a week.
I will be reading all your posts with interest and any advice please send it my way!

Also, does anyone know how much saturated fat is in a Niquitin 2mg lozenge? I googled it and the only thing i found was someone saying they had 4mg sat fat in them - big problem if this is true!

hi there and welcome...congratulations on quitting smoking, good for you...I love this site..the people are amazing and so motivating...I personally try to eat 6x a day to keep my metabolism going...so far it seems to be working...so it seems like i am snacking all the time but i eat healthy food so it's all good...my food diary is open if you want to look at that...as far as the nicotine gum I wouldn't worry too much about it there are less than 3 calories and only 1 carbohydrate in each piece...don't really think there is any fat in them...just make sure you have plenty of good healthy food choices at home and your son will be fine..he doesn't need the cookies and chips either, as they are not good for you or anyone...again welcome and i shall send a friend request now.0

I've found One Cal oil spray that's, well one calorie per spray is a great alternative to regular oil in cooking. Well done on stopping smoking btw the only drawback is the snacking! Banana chopped up into low fat yogurt is a nice snack that can be filling.0

Thanks for the replies!
Im having lots of bananas and non fat probiotic drinks as im trying to setlle my tummy which has swelled up something bad. i seem to have lots of wind changing my diet and i get really bloated with eating veg and salad :-(
Ive just made fresh curried pea soup and my son had that instead of crisps! he says it was good.
We have an allotment and just now im getting a glut of peas cabbage beetroot and tomatoes, so im trying some funny recipies - braised red cabbage for dinner tonight, with grilled turkey steaks and boiled potatoes!
@ shananagins I will check your food diary when i manage to find the friends requests lol :-)0
