I thought it was visual basic 6.x related too! Sadly, I had to google this, I had never heard of it before. I've heard of the concept, but didn't know there was a book/specific diet plan for part-time plant based eating.

I wanna say it was popular . . . five or six years ago? At least that's when I remember hearing it a lot.

Yes, I just looked it up and the book was published in 2013.

I like Mark Bittman's work overall, but this . . . I'm not such a fan. I wish he had called it exactly what it is, part-time plant based eating.

That's from Freelee the Banana Girl, isn't it?

Not exactly a great source for diet/health information.

Ah, my mistake. It's so hard to keep all the fad diets with their arbitrary hours straight, lol.

My favorite is my own creation. AA1- alcohol after one. No problems remembering at all!

It's Mark Bittman's plan and it's actually a non-unreasonable way to eat (as long as you don't mind skipping animal products before 6 PM), it's just unnecessarily trendy (and rests on a fundamental misunderstanding of what veganism is all about).

You could be totally healthy on Bittman's plan, unlike Freelee's.

I wish people would call plant based eating what it is, a diet based on mostly plants. ;)

So what term would you use for someone who doesn't eat animal products but isn't concerned about animal exploitation for things like clothing, health & beauty products, and entertainment? Plant-based eating is the term that is being used to explain that lifestyle.

I would (and do) call it a vegan diet, which would not say anything about the rest of your lifestyle, but would accurately describe the diet.

Well, I'm pretty sure we've had this discussion before, but given the origins of the word to describe a particular ethical/ideological orientation, I don't consider that to be acceptable (I realize this won't stop others from continuing to use it, but I prefer not to use it that way myself). I still think "plant-based" is the simplest way for those who avoid animal products in their food to describe their preferences, as virtually everyone on earth has a "plant-based diet" (a diet that includes plants) in the way that you're using it. I don't know if having a diet that is mostly plants is something that we need a special term to describe (your experience may be different).
