MapMyWalk Calorie Adjustment

Hey there! I was wondering if someone could explain the MapMyWalk Calorie Adjustment in basic terms for me. I have read the description online but it seems pretty complex to understand and was hoping for a simple explanation on how it calculated in when I sync over a workout I did from my MPW app.

It seems like it doubles my workout or adds additional calories burned and I don't want to feel like I'm double dipping calories and thus messing up my available calorie balance.

If you are syncing via MMW, you don't add in the exercise in MFP. Otherwise you're doubling up.
Are you entering workouts in MMW only or in both apps?

I am just using MMW...like for example, today, I did 1326 calories walking but then there is a separate line item that says "Under Armour Calorie Adjustment -- 1057 calories" and then there is a total of 2,383 so this was added back to my calorie daily limit. When I click the "i" bubble next to UA Calorie Adjustment" it says:

'You're using Under Armour to measure your actual activity level throughout the day.

To accurately reflect any extra calories you're burning, we use this data to adjust your daily MyFitnessPal calorie goal.

This is how we calculate your calorie adjustment:

    Under Armour Calories Burned
    Full Day Projection
(Based on 2419 calories burned as of 1:57 pm) 3398
    MyFitnessPal Calories Burned
    2341
    Under Armour Calorie Adjustment
    1,057'

Not sure what that all means :(

Basically the calorie adjustment takes the tracker calories burned for the day and then compares it to the MFP daily calorie goal. The difference between the 2 is what you burned in addition to what you body would have burned doing absolutely nothing. I don't know how accurate the MMW trackers are, so can't tell you for sure if it is correct.

I do know with my fitbit, it's quite accurate and it adds additional calories earned from exercise and sometimes deducts if I've been less active than normal, and then adjusts my daily total on MFP accordingly.

Ah okay, it sort of feels like I'm double dipping burned calories so I'm messing up my daily calorie intake but that is something I'll need to keep an eye on I think

One more question. MMW is linked to a fitness/step tracker? Are you then entering in your exercise (walk) manually into MMW?
How much are you walking? What pace? How long?

Ok, more than 1 question ;)

I just have MMW linked to MFP so if I exercise the info syncs with MFL, I usually will go for several miles a day, between 2-3, I typically go 2.5 mph, time can range 45 min to maybe 1.5 hours if I stop to catch my breath or drink water

The calorie burn from your walks seem quite high, but again, I have no idea of your current stats. If you have a large amount of weight to lose, you can burn more calories.

What you can do is experiment a bit with your calorie intake over the next month. Eat back 1/3 of your exercise calories in addition to your daily alloted by MFP. If you are losing at a higher than anticipated rate, then start eating back 1/2 of your exercise calories. If you are holding steady or gaining over the month, then you know to decrease.

We're in it for the long haul, tweaking takes time and patience.

My MMW adds on a calories burned adjustment after my first walk of the day, but it only shows the actual walking calories burned in the info on the top of the page goal - food + exercise = remaining. The extra is only displayed in the diary s4ction. However after my second walk of the day (school run home) the added calorie adjustment is always back to zero.

You have an Underarmor step tracker(like a fitbit or garmin or Jawbone) as I read your log

It credited you with 2419 calories.

MMW gave you 1326 calories. probably 2-3 times what you actually burned, but that's ok, because

MFP takes the 2419 subtracts your MMW and gives you credit for the remaining 1057.

Not sure where the 2341 is coming from.
