What are the best options for losing weight around the middle? If I could just lose something around there I would FEEL like it is working.

I do a lot of cardio and I've noticed my stomach has gone down a great deal.

I would suggest walking and doing bicycles for upper, lower and middle AB work.

Definitely up your cardio. Usually belly fat is the last to go for most people though, unfortunately.
Are you measuring? You might not be seeing changes with the naked eye, but the chances are likely there.

I eat less sugar, and I have noticed a difference I'm down 2 inches, I also keep my carbs below 100 most days.

Cardio has been my savior!!! I mix it up all the time, though, so I'm getting multiple things. :)

I don't know if eating less sugar helps but some say it does. Just don't replace all your sugar with artificial sweeteners. You are just switching one bad for another. Try lessening the sugar and go unsweetened to wean yourself off it.

Definitely do any ab/core workouts you can. At first it will seem to have a negative effect-the increased muscle under your fat may increase your inches but so long as your body fat % is stable/lowering you are good. Then do cardio to help reduce the fat % and you'll see some nice abs emerge.

You'll lose weight just about wherever your body decides you're going to lose it. Probably not what you want to hear, but it's true. There is no way that you can burn calories and "target" belly fat.

That said, cardio will burn calories. Less calories in and more out equals weight loss. Combine that with strength training and you'll get results. Tightening up muscles in your core will help the appearance of your stomach, and can be done quite dramatically (just look at some of the people who've done 30DS and lost only 3-4 pounds, but multiple dress sizes).

It's frustrating to have one particular area that you want to see more improvement, but give it time and things will change. If that's where you store the most fat, it's naturally going to take you longer to be content with the result. Just keep focusing on a healthy, balanced diet coupled with cardio, strength, and stretching and you will see a difference.
  • You should try Zumba it does amazing things to your body!
  • The very thing I have been pondering the last few days. Lot's of good advice on here and I totally agree with the measuring point. I lost 2" in the first few weeks or month of being here and being diligient but have not measured for a while. (tomorrow)

One of the things I read last night from Banks (he may be one of the founders of this site, not sure) he said we need ot be sure to eat our exercise calories and to be patient. It was really a powerful post. He says the weight did not happen over night or even over a few months. It is a lifetime of habits we are trying to reverse so be patient.

Because of a back injury 5 years ago my middle has become really weak and I honestly am not sure where to start but I think Pilates is a good place to start. Good luck to you!! Freind me if you like. :)
