Week 3

Third week of the diet and third week of daily headaches which start mid afternoon. I am on Diet Chef so i know I am having the right mix of nutrients (including sodium) and I have not deviated or cheated ! Initially I thought is was due to over hydration (never been a big water drinker in the past but have been taking 8 large glasses per day as advised). Then I looked at caffeine deficiency as since taking the water I have cut down my coffee intake as to be honest it is replaced by the water and I don't think of even making coffee or tea. Is my problem caused just by the change in eating habits/routines (for example I never used to eat breakfast). Its getting me down now as I am loosing 3 lbs per week so really pleased about that but I have never suffered from headaches before. I have found by taking a cup of black coffee at about 7 pm I seem to be able to shift it before bed

It could be the eating habits, 3lbs a week is generally not a healthy loss unless you've got like 200lbs to lose or more. If you're losing 3lbs a week, it could be that you're under eating and your headaches could be caused by that. How much weight are you trying to lose?

What is your calorie intake like? are you restricting foods too much like carbs? are you exercising without eating calories back?0

I am working to 1200 cals per day. The good thing with Diet Chef is it is balanced ready prepared meals and I just have to add veg or salad so I am not restricting any food group. I am not overly active (desk job) but my fit bit adjustment for exercise gives me 3 to 400 more calories. I must admit I have not been using them up and sticking to the 1200. I take it thats not a good idea ?

Thank you. I have 28lbs left to lose. As I say I am only on week three (weigh in due Monday) but the first two weeks I did loose 3lb each week. Maybe I need to start eating back the cals I earn from the bit of exercise I am being awarded as another poster has indicated.1 -

The way MFP is set up you eat back those calories.
3 pounds each of the first two weeks isn't bad, as you tend to lose a lot of water weight at first. But now it should slow down, and with how much you have to lose you should be aiming for about a pound a week.2 -
In addition to under eating, you may well be over hydrating and/or dealing with caffeine withdrawal. Many people don’t realize that they get hydration from all liquids, including caffeinated and carbonated ones (just not alcohol), as well as many foods. Cutting back on liquid calories can help create a deficit, but you don’t need to be forcing yourself to drink tons of water or quit all tea and coffee in order to lose weight or be healthy.0

Thank you. To be honest by trying to get the water taken in I have not even thought about making tea of coffee so that was not an intentional change but I also had no idea about the fact you could get withdrawal. Will cut down on the glasses of water I think and reintroduce my two or three cups of coffee per day and see if that helps. As well as consuming all of my earned extra calories from exercise. I ready do not like the headaches, especially as I have never been a sufferer of them in the past ever. Thanks again for your input (and everyone else)0

Oh yeah, caffeine withdrawal is definitely a thing, and headaches are a really common symptom. It’s fine to cut back on coffee and black tea if you want, but if you’re getting headaches it might be a good idea to do it more gradually. Good luck!1
