Getting rid, & keeping rid of spiders

I have posted this on my wall but figure there is many more opinions here on community. I really hate large spiders & more than a few have been spotted in my bfs house. Where I stay some weekends, I found a big black one on his bed so needless to say I totally freaked & have purchased some insect repellent. In the picture you can see what I bought. Got 2 of them. Anyone use these or something similar? Iv heard peppermint oil is good as well so plan to put that on Windows, doors. Anyone else got some good tips ?

    Flame thrower.

No, try the peppermint oil first. Use a spray bottle and dilute drops with water.
Next, find the source where they are coming from. Kill the Overmind, you destroy the swarm.

Curious. What kind of spiders are they? Predatory webless wolf spiders, or nesters that sit in webs?

Yeah I think you guys got wolf spiders in U.K., they aren't black though but have two grey stripes down their thorax. They bite. Garden varieties are harmless, check your door/window seals. They probably just want to move in where it's warmer. You could spray the peppermint spray on every door corner/jam won't smell much.

Try that electronic repeller that you have, but I think they work better on mice.

    Tarantulas apparently taste like shrimp.
Bizarre foods with Andrew Zimmerman is an awesome show.

I don't know if you would have access to it, but Tempo works amazingly well (works on a variety of insects too). I spray around the exterior of my home, making sure to go around all doors and windows. I also hit the interior where they hang (corners, the creepy part of the basement, etc). I use to kill 4 or 5 a day, now it's that many a year.

I am quite fond of spiders. I normally just relocate them outside so my cats don't play with them. Unless they are my pets, in which case they are mostly safe in their terrarium.

Clean obsessively and declutter? Get rid of other insect life in the area? Cut down all vegetation? Call an exterminator to spray the whole place?
They probably aren't going to go where there is no food or hiding places.

I don't worry about all spiders. I do kill anything I think may be a brown recluse spider since getting bitten by one a few years ago. I just squish them.

How many spiders have you got? What kind do you have?

I only have the one now - Chilean Rose Tarantula. His name is Fuzzy

At one point I had 27 tarantulas and 7 scorpions. I had to breed crickets to feed them and feeding and misting them all took at least an hour (longer if I had escapee crickets)

Aaw fuzzy makes him sound cute lol that's a lot of spiders you had! Braver than me. My partner thinks I should try hypnotherapy to cure my fear. Might consider it.

Funnily enough, Fuzzy was my ex's therapy for his arachnophobia. We got him as a sling (spiderling) and he was the size of my thumb nail. Very cute. When you get them at that size and watch them grow it takes the fear out. That and educating yourself on the different species.

I kill sac spiders without a second thought because they are aggressive and have cytotoxin, which eats holes in your flesh (literally, it's not pretty or pleasant).

Violin spiders are neurotoxic, but reclusive and so although they are the deadliest spider in South Africa (can't speak for any other country I'm afraid), there is very rarely any cases of bites by violin spiders.

The third deadliest spider in South Africa is the black widow (black button spider). But they are not aggressive and only bite if threatened. So I just leave them alone. I have some brown button spiders living in my kitchen. They catch all the flies for me.

I had a golden orb web spider living outside on the porch by the light and it would catch all the moths and flying ants, but we had a really cold winter and it died. I was very sad. I'd already named her Beautiful and I talked to her every day. They are harmless.

Rain spiders are big and scary looking, but also harmless. They only come inside when it is about to rain (hence the name). I had to take one outside for an ex boyfriend who screamed like a little girl when he saw it on the wall. What is it with me and men who are scared of spiders? Hmm

I also got a visit from a silver vlei spider. That is a beauty of note!

My favourites are still jumping spiders, Salticidae. They look so cute with their big eyes. Did you know, they can see clearly for up to 5 meters! Quite the distance for such a little thing.

    Anyway, lecture over!

small spiders i generally don't care about unless they look particularly dangerous. Funnel webs or ones with weird patterns.

but huntsman, an essentially harmless spider, they always get me by being on the window as you open the blinds, right at face height. Or falling from my ceiling onto my pillow as i lay in bed.

I generally kill these in some way.

Every bed you've ever slept in has had spiders crawl on it. This time of year they will be giant house spiders coming out of hibernation and looking for ways back into the garden. There have been virtually no recorded bites in the UK despite what the tabloids will have you think, and nothing can inflict a wound more painful that a wasp sting (and think how many people each year get stung by waps!). Source: Am from UK, I studied zoology in university and am an avid spider nerd (especially UK species).

Also they won't be garden spiders, they are the beautiful tan and brown orb weaving ones that you see in your garden between June and October. Neither of those repellants will work as they aren't living in your boyfriends house, they are just waking up and trying to leave the building, they have no intention of staying indoors. Hope it helps, they should be gone in the next few weeks

My dad used to put cloves of garlic in every window sill. I thought he was crazy like, why are we protecting our house from vampires? Then he explained that it was for spiders, and that somehow made it less crazy.
