I think a good warm up and stretch before a workout, and make sure you have a good pair of shoes! (The ones with the arch support).
Good Luck0 -
I have the same problem sometimes - doesn't matter how much stretching I do!0

might be your arches. I have the same problem. It's because I have flat feet. My dad uses these arch support things and says that ever since he started wearing them he doesn't get shin splints. I wore them one day and didn't really notice a difference so I guess it depends on the person.0

take ibeprofen and make sure you ice them. I get them really bad from running. They don't go away but if you take care of them they won't hurt as much. Also, make sure your shoes are in good condition with support and cushion as well.0

Good shoes and repition is the only hope you have - if it is muscles. I love Payless too, but I couldn't get rid of the pain until I dropped $120 on a pair of shoes - it was worth it. Soaking in Epsom salt after workouts works too.
True shin splints are tiny cracks in the bones (versus shin muscle pain). If you cannot work it out by working out, you may want to try some compression socks or a trip to the doctor for x-rays.0 -
There is a product called "Super Feet". They insert into your shoes to support your arch.
I bought mine at **** Pond Athletics. If there are any around you, they can watch you walk/run and offer you advice on what type of shoe you need.
