Do you log the warm up

I'm doing couch to 5k at the moment and using Strava to log my route page distance etc.

Thing is I want to be able to see what I do in the running component of the program but I want to log the full work out including warm up and cool down.

What do you guys do. Should I use two tracking programs starting ones when the running starts

    When I started running, I did 2 days of C25K and then parkrun as best I could on the Saturday.

    I only used Strava during parkrun, because I mainly wanted a record of my parkrun progress.

    For you, I think it sounds like another app would be a good idea to record the running.

    Unless you only start Strava when running, and pause it during the walk breaks. (I probably should have done that, looking back. :smile: )

    MapMyRun is free and does a good job, and syncs with MFP, if you want a separate app.

    My c25k app doesn't log distance etc so I start Strava when I start that. I might start endomondo after the five minute warm up and stop it before the five minute cool down that way I'll have a record of both the total without and workout without cool down and warm up

    I use MapMyRun. When I started running up to 5k I originally incl the warm up but when I signed up for my first 5k race I knew race day it wouldn't count so now I don't. Now Im training for a 10k! :)

    If you're interested in the calories burned during your warmup (and cooldown) then I would not worry about logging them. The calorie burn from a 5 minute warmup or cooldown should be pretty small.

    If you're interested in distance, I also wouldn't count warmup or cooldown, as you're not actually running during that time.

    A five minute warm up and cool down is about an extra 1km so it's not insignificant

    In Strava you can analyse the data for different sections of the run in some depth. Record the whole session, then you can remove elements as you're analysing. You can't add back data you don't have.

    My gut reaction is that you're overthinking it.

    You only get basic data unless you get the premium one

    What is the significance to you? Logging the distance or estimating the calories?

    Personally (as I'm performance driven) I like to compare my times purely for the training distance without the variable of including warm ups and cool downs, I don't record or log them.

    I tend to start my tracker at the warm up but knock it off for the cooldown. I don't usually do the full 5 min cooldown I walk the rest of my route home and then do some yoga/stretching when I get in which I log separately.

    I started out doing that and just kept doing it so that my times/distances were consistent with earlier ones.

    Warm up and cool down mainly for calories for. My warm up is a very brisk walk and my cool down can be anything from a light jog to a brisk walk.

    I'm just completed C25K and didnt log the running parts seperately until I was doing continuous running (?wk6). I used Map My Run for distance and then I entered it into MFP for cals at miles per hour - usually I run at 4mph which is classed as fast walking!

    The walking portion being a significant part of the overall calorie expenditure falls away at week five, by that point the warm up and cool down are about 10% of the total effort.

    yes, im just about to do week 6 day 3 and since there are no longer any walking intervals i am no longer going to include the warm up in my strava app. i will continue to log the cool down tho as i do not walk in cool down but just slow down my running to a light jog.

    I've never used Strava's app but, is there a lap button? If so just press lap after your warm up (and perhaps again at your cool down). You'll end up recording the calories for the entire work out but should be able to see your stats (save for calories) for each lap as well.
