Summer VS Winter

I Find that I generally seem to always gain weight in the summer, and easier to lose in the winter. What about you all? Does your weightloss change with the seasons?

Yes ... Summer is my enemy I swear. It's always too dang hot to get out, and all I want to do is sit on my duff and drink beer and eat snacks. LOL!! Winter time is so much easier ... we are eating comfort foods ... but it's cool enough to get out and work that off.

Yea but mine's the opposite! In the summer I take advantage of the great weather and go outside a lot, work out, pick fruit and stuff....In the winter I'm not motivated to do anything because it's a 15 minute walk through the snow to the gym from the apt, and it's 20 degrees F with a windchill of -10. But not anymore! I'm determined to beat it0

I get soooooo much more done in the winter than I do the summer. I live in Florida so summer here is TERRIBLE. The humidity is too bad to want to even BREATHE outside.0

All the seasons are the same for me, for as long as you have the will and determination of checking your calories and exercise the weight it will go up or down at any season :-)

Summer is definitely the worst for me. There are always more temptations in the summer - bbq's, parties, vacations, etc. Lots of food and drinks! In the winter the holidays can be tough but then it's new years resolution time right after that and mine is ALWAYS to lose weight. So that usually ends up being better but I find that the best time for my weight loss is the fall (end of the summer motivation or new school year new start) or the spring (the motivation that you know summer aka swimsuit season is coming up!)0

I'm the opposite. In summer, I can get out for a walk before it gets too hot, and delicious fresh fruits & veg are in season & cheap. In winter, I do more baking, tend to eat more starchy foods, and have a hard time getting out for walks because the ground can be icy & treacherous! I started this round of healthier living in February, and have been doing pretty well, but I'm not looking forward to winter.0

I agree...summer i allow myself to cheat WAY more - especially since I live here in MN, I literally have only about 3 months to be able to enjoy the outdoors. Then comes winter and I drop about 5-10 lbs like that! I am not worried about it as long as I stay within my goal weight.0

agreed...i find my self bored more in the winter there for exercise more than in summer...

:grumble: I seen to do fine in whatever season as far as my weight,I just hate summer....I hate the 30 something days in a row of 100 degree or higher days weve had here, alond with 2 months of no rain.Im sick of the pool, and shorts and my not wearing makeup because I sweat it off.OMG I can not wait till fall when I can break out my cute clothes and boots, and go to the park with my daughter again.(trust me its way to hot unless you go to the park at 5 am)
UGH :explode: :explode: :explode: :explode: :explode: :explode: :grumble: :grumble:
Ok rant done:happy:0 -
I lose weight every summer (5 or 6 pounds) and gain it back over the winter. The heat and humidity kill my appetite, food needs to be cold or frozen or it just doesn't appeal to me. I haven't gone near the oven in weeks.0

I would LOVE that0 -
winter used to be a lot worse for me. I could never find the motivation to brave the cold (and it is super cold in both Providence and Chicago where I have lived in the past three years). Last December though my hubby got me Turbo Fire for hanukkah which pretty much saved my life - cause I got to work out 6 days a week through the winter without leaving the house.
This summer has been challenging though - sad to admit. I didn't want to workout indoors when it was so pretty outdoors but I kept getting distracted and never made it outdoors. In any case - I started another round of Turbo Fire last week and am determined to finish this summer with a bang!Yea but mine's the opposite! In the summer I take advantage of the great weather and go outside a lot, work out, pick fruit and stuff....In the winter I'm not motivated to do anything because it's a 15 minute walk through the snow to the gym from the apt, and it's 20 degrees F with a windchill of -10. I'm the same way. I prefer getting exercise outdoors, which is impossible for me because I live in Texas, and it's hotter than the hinges on the gates of Hell here in the summer. But in winter, I love getting outside and being in the fresh, cold air. It energizes me, whereas the heat and humidity totally drain me.0

Winter here is the only time the weather is nice. Screw summer.0

Summer I find it easier to eat healthy (when it's hot all you want is a lovely fresh salad in the evening) but I do get really tempted to go out and sit in a beer garden... So I eat less when it's hot but socialise more - lots of BBQ's, evenings in pub gardens, friends round for prosecco on the balcony.
Winter I find that I want hearty, wholesome food - normally stodgy carbs but I go out a lot less socially so I find it easy to stick to a healthy routine? I wasn't on MFP last winter but I think I'll find it easier to stick within calories in winter as my life style will be more consistent (there wont be impromptu Monday nights out as it is 30c!) and I am not going to be falling back on stodgy carbs!
I admit my motivation is winter is non existent though - I swear S.A.D is a proper condition - so I will have to really work hard to keep up with the exercise this year!!0 -
There always seems to be more events going on in the summer involving food, lots of BBQ's, more going out to dinner with the hubby that I find it easier in the winter as well - hubby is the opposite and loses at least 5 lbs on his already healthy-thin frame due to golfing, cutting the grass and such.
I'm almost more motivated in the fall-winter b/c I'm a December baby so when I get close to fall I go "oh crap, I have _ months to lose _ lbs before my birthday” just as an annual goal.0 -
Definatly Summer. It's easier to get outside and be more active. There is more daylight and more activities are possible with pools, creeks, and rivers having a decent water tempurature. In the winter it's dark when I leave for work, it's dark when I get home, I can't swim at lunch, and there is no baseball.
I think there is a paleo natural inclination for our bodies to want to shed fat when it's warmer, and add fat when it's cooler.0 -
I agree! Soooo many excuses in the summer.0
-
I put on my winter layer of fat every year. I walk 1-2 miles/day outside and in the winter sometimes that gets sidelined by icy conditions, snow storms, sub-zero temps, etc. Also, in the summer I tend to hike more and do more outdoorsy things like gardening, swimming, etc. In the winter I have to make a bigger effort to be active.0
