Turned 27- and everything slowed down...

Good morning!
My name is Mary and I'm here to kick-start my exercise/healthier-me-routine!
I used the "Turned 27- and everything slowed down..." headline to grab your attention... but really, I've noticed my body changing.
No longer can I munch down on whatever I want w/o feeling its wrath. I "gave up" exercising when my Dad died two years ago.
I had a regular routine and went 4 days out of 7. After the trauma of losing my dad, I stopped working out and became complacent with my body. I'm at the biggest weight I've ever been... weighing in at 170lbs. I'm 5'7 and at my healthiest I was 140lbs.
My goals are:
1. Work out 4/5 times a week
2. Eat more veggies, fruits, and proteins
3. Limit my beer drinking (I have a think for IPAs)
4. Try a yoga class
5. Be at the goal weight of 140lbs by December.
I'm looking forward to gaining new friends from here and educating myself!
Thank you,
Mary

Hi Mary,
Feel free to add if you need some support or a kick up the backside at any point!0 -
I had "step-downs" in metabolism about every decade, honestly. 20, 30, 40, 50. You adjust0

Hi Mary,
So sorry to hear about you losing your dad. Very tough losing a close loved one.
I'm 27 too but it all started to slow down for me when I was 20, round about when I met my hubby. Two kids later...need I say more? Goal weight for me is just under 140...about 10 pounds away now and MFP has been such an awesome tool.

Metabolism slows as you get older, and you have to adjust eating and excercise habits accordingly.
Cardio will help you shift pounds, and make you healthier as your heart works harder, but you must also try somekind of weights class, women need to start using light weights to increase bone density to alleviate possible prblems in later life. ask a trainer in your gym if you go to one.
I use Pilates as my stretch realign and abs class, twice a week if I can and its great.
I am 5'7 and currently 169lb trying to get down to 140lb too so feel free to have some mutual encouragement with me!.
Try and keep a mix of exercise rather than doing the same thing all the time so you do not get bored. Alcohol will not only feed you invisible cals but makes you have bad food choices too so try and cut that down.
I am sure you will notice the difference as soon as you begin this journey and you will feel great!

Hi Mary -
I get it! Started a support/weigh-in group today. Check out our thread:

I put on all the weight when my kids got sick. I'm a stress eater. Trying to move past all of it now.
