Slow Metabolism

Hi, I have been trying to lose 20 pounds. I am getting discouraged, weighed myself this morning and I lost 1 pound. I have been using the fitbit tracking my steps for three weeks now and lost 3 lbs. I do no less than 10,000 steps a day (usually 12,000 to 14,000 steps) which include water aerobics for 45 mins and 30 mins other water exercises five days a week. I was only taking in about 900 calories a day, I realized that was a mistake and have increased to 1200 calories a day. I quit smoking last year and I believe my metabolism has slowed down and this is my problem trying to lose the pounds.
My other issue is I am 63 years young and have issues with my back and knees. I know from past experience if I try to do more steps I will be in physio for a week.
Any suggestions would greatly appreciate.

Three pounds in three weeks is good. Keep going.11

How long have you been trying to lose weight? Is 20 pounds all you have to lose? What weightloss rate did you tell MFP you wanted at setup? What calorie target did MFP give you? Why don't you follow MFP's calorie suggestion?
Oh, and your metabolism is fine. Your patience is a bit low, that's all.16 -
I would suggest reading the “why am I not losing weight” in the most helpful posts thread.2

Patience is the only thing you need. If I understand your post correctly, you've lost 3 pounds in 3 weeks. With only 20 pounds to lose, you can't expect to lose much faster than that.8

Patience and precise tracking. 20lbs is not a lot to lose, and assuming that this 20 will bring you to your goal weight it's just going to be slow. That's true for anyone of any size. 3lbs is a good start. You probably don't have to be at 1200 though, enter your stats into MFP and set it to .5lb loss a week, it'll give you a good amount of calories. The water exercises you're doing are great exercise and if it's working for you keep at it. Just again be precise with your logging, get a food scale if you're not weighing your food and be patient, it will come off.0

How are you measuring your food? Are you eye balling your portions? Using measuring cups? Weighing? Are you tracking bites, nibbles and tastes?
Further, if you only have 20 pounds to lose and you have lost 3 pounds in three weeks, you are doing very well. Be patient! You didn't put the weight on overnight and it won't come off overnight either.3 -
Youur expectations are the issue 3 lbs in 3 weeks is fine.4
