I want to lose weight and tone mainly my midsection. I know however targeted weight loss is not easy but is there any workout there that mainly focuses on the stomach. I don't know if I should be doing ab exercises yet because there is fat covering any abs that might be there. I wanted to lose the stomach fat then tone the muscles. Any suggestions?? I really don't want to lose weight in my legs and arms just tone those muscles because I actually think they are a nice shape as of now. Thanks in advance!!

P.S I was sampling Insanity(not ready for this), 30DS(seems to focus on the legs, arms, and cardio), P90X(i dont want to get scary muscular)

There are tons! I can't do Sit ups because they hurt my back. But I do regular crunches, reverse crunches, verticel leg lifts, side crunches, ankle touches, butterfly crunches....... if you're not familiar with them, check out youtube or do a google search. I do about 15-30 reps and two sets everyday! You'll get results, but does take time. It's best to start toning as you are losing your weight, it will help lose inches in your ab area too! good luck.

I'm a 30DS junkie. This has provided tremendous results for me. I had a leftover mommy tummy. It had been super frustrating, because I was working so hard and it seemed to be the only place that was not seeing results. Since I started the 30 day shred at the beginning of June, my body has completed been transformed. My mid section has tightened up and shrunk. I can see some of my ab muscles (not all yet). My arms have changed from round sausages to toned, sculpted arms I never thought I could have. Some people say they get bored of the 30DS, but I say up the weights and make sure you're actually working all your muscles possible. If you're concentrating on that and have the added weight, there's no time for being bored!

Just plain old leg lifts work pretty good. I'm not a crunch person, but I can make myself do leg lifts. :)
    Good luck.
  • From past experience, you need to diet and excercise at the same time. While the fat is melting off, your muscles are becoming toned and when the fat is gone, your sexy muscles will show. I have a ab machine that I bought at HSN made by Tony Little and I love it. It works your core muscles which help the rest of you lose weight.

Hi there. It's not that targeted weight loss 'is not that easy' it's that its impossible. Your body will decided where the weight comes off first. You CAN target muscle building but for fat loss your body will decided where it takes the energy it needs from you.
  • There are a ton of ab workouts that you can do, but it doesn't sound as though that's what you need (per sey). Everyone's body picks a few spots as the "fat pantry" -- for you it sounds as though that's the stomach (me too... and the love handles). So doing overall fat burning workouts will help to reduce that. I'd suggest trying (an I'm no trainer, so... free advice = you get what you pay for) ab work that hits your entire core. A good one to start with is a plank exercise. Another one that has some minimal effect is the stomach vacuum -- that's really not a core exercise, but it is supposed to strengthen and help reduce the size (or appearance of size) of your stomach by strengthening your "inner abs" or Transversus Abdominus. It's a trick that a lot of bodybuilders use to get a better "V". But that's sort of a last resort/fine tuning kind of thing.

So in short/summary: focus on eating right to lose fat. Work your core. Fine tune, when you get to that point through stomach vacuums.
