Hey there!!!

I have just watched the movie fat head, and i found is so completty shocking the amount people/governments/scientists will go to, to make people believe something to be true. I think this movie was so informative and also quite funny, it definalty made me want to re-think me eating and goals.

I am wondering though is there anyone out there who has had any success changing their diet to high fat/protein and low carb, and if so how much did it improve your weight loss?

Any thoughts on this aswel would be appreciated.

Thanks

I love that documentary!! Although, I have not tried to do that. So I'm not of much help. But I suggest everyone watch it!

After losing slowly and then giving up and gaining back, I am trying the low carb - high protein approach. I have gotten interested in Atkins and Gary Taubes. I would like more info on this dieting too. I am just starting it today, and I have at least 50 pounds to lose.

I eat between 30% and 40% of my calories from fat and have honestly seen an increase in my weight loss as a result. I am having much more success than when I was eating the crappy low-fat/no-fat products. Now I eat full fat dairy and am sure to get in some nice med-rare red meat at least twice a week. My cholesterol and triglycerides have also improved, contrary to popular belief.
  • Yes! I am a fat head. I do a high fat low carb diet and it has worked wonders for my husband and I. In a month I have lost over 30" all over my body and about 15 lbs of fat...If you have watched Fathead I recomend you go youtubing to listen to some of Gary Taubes semenars. As much asit may seem crazy compared to what you have kown your whole adult life it works...I say go for it!
  • Thankyou so much for the responses i honestly wasnt really expecting that :S i think i am definatly going to give it a try. As it cant hurt.

Any tips on how to start or did you just go straight into it? Also what do you have tor percentages set to. As in the documentary he kept stating 100g carbs which i personally dont think is that bad and think i could stick to it but i dont know if he was going to the extreme with that figure?

Aldale, i too am v new only started few days ago and have 47ish pounds to lose, so id be interested to here how things go for you too?

    Thanks guys!!!

I have cut out a lot of carbs recently and have had great results. Also I wonder if I have a secret gluten/wheat sensitivity because I have lost all the bloat.

I really want to see this movie but Netflix Canada doesn't have it and I can't watch it on Hulu either because I'm not in the States - anyone know how I can get a hold of it, short of ordering it?

Eating fewer carbs does tend to help my weight loss, but I think that things like Atkins are a short term fix. We need carbs for our bodies to function properly so I don't think they should be cut out long-term... and it is dangerous to eat the amount of fat you would have on Atkins... but maybe just to give your weight loss a bit of a kick for a few weeks it's ok :)

For the low carb thing to work, you need to allow at least one meal to be high carb; I do an entire day (within reason). Your body gets used to on certain way, then you have to change it up. That one meal helps do that.

does it matter which meal? as i always find i love a high carb meal in evening however ive heard people say that you shouldnt eat carbs too late. When you say an entire day do you mean one day a week or just spread your carbs thoughout that day?

sorry if being dim lol, just want to try get it right. although want be able to really start for a week or so, as just done weekly food shop lol.

i'm pretty sure that these kinds of "rules" are sort of silly ways to "lose weight." this is the deal: vegetables are carbohydrates and carbohydrates are good for you; they are brain food.

but simple carbohydrates or processed foods are things to obviously avoid. it doesn't mean you can never have a pb&j on white again, it just means that you can't four in a sitting. sure, you can have soda & chips, but try to limit them to picnics or parties or something like that.

the bulk of your day should be focused on eating unprocessed plant matter. it's good for your pooper, too!

my opinion is by eating full-fat items in smaller quantities, your body gets all the nutrients you need and feel satiated at the same time. i don't eat fat-free anything, and i've lost over 60lbs (42mfp).

but also, i move my body a lot. so i don't "diet" the way others do, i just eat good, wholesome food and then keep moving. don't buy into fads, they're not sustainable.

i'm sure the movie's pretty good - they all are. ;)
