If I go for an hour jog and enter it on here and then my Fitbit tracks my steps (including steps from run) is that double dipping?

Do you have Fitbit connected to MyFitnessPal? Then yes you would be double dipping. However I do not have my Fitbit connect to MyFitnessPal because it confuses me with the calories. So I enter my exercise here. I don't use my Fitbit to calculate my daily calories so whatever my Fitbit registers on itself is really of no consequence when it comes to my diet. I use my Fitbit strictly to track my steps and how many minutes of exercise I did and how many miles I went Etc.

Thank you for showing me the conversion. I naturally use my Fitbit for steps and workouts so I should trust the transfer of data to MFP.

So why are you logging the run on MFP? The only exercise I log is non step based since FitBit doesn’t track it well.

No need to log the run on MFP. Let Fitbit do that for you which it will if the two apps are synced.

I actually find that Fitbit isn't doesn't accurately account for calorie burns for runs (though it is great for walking burns), so I log my runs separately. As the previous poster illustrated in the screenshots, if you're logging the time of the run accurately, the delta will be transferred from the Fitbit burn and onto the MFP burn.

One caveat, however... I've noticed that it's been taking longer for the adjustment to take place, so for an undetermined period of time, it will appear that you are double counting. I've found that if I sync the Fitbit app on my phone that the adjustment takes place more quickly.

I was using runs as an example of working out and accumulating steps (possible double dipping). I actually logged my walk since it is uphill and the Fitbit only recognizes it some of the time (I checked Fitbit app to see if it was added prior to adding it to MFP) but the steps would have been recognized. The point is, I want to ensure I am not cheating myself. My Fitbit is now properly synced so I will leave it up to that solely to track. The conversation math helped me to understand
