How often do you recalculate + determine calories?

Preface: I do NOT use the MFP food or exercise tracking. I like to eat about the same amount every day (just easier for me), plus my activity really varies from weekdays to weekends, so I use other calculators and go through a bit of a process to determine my goals.

That being said, how often do you review your calorie goals/needs? What are your triggers to alert you that maybe that needs some attention? Do you have a strict number you shoot for, or a range?

Overall my recomp has been going pretty steady (measurements), and my workouts are going great (that's the priority right now!). But I was really struggling with hunger with this last increase in the intensity of my program, and noticed that I was getting a lot more cravings for "bad" food (fast food, pizza, the like). Went back in and re-calculated everything with the new workouts in mind, and it appears I may have been under eating a bit. Not a huge amount, but 100-300 calories a day, which could easily explain the cravings.

Weight hasn't changed, workouts have. I give myself a range that ranges from a ~1lb/week "loss" at my current weight to what should be about maintenance at my "goal" weight. Just allows for a bit more flexibility while still staying in some kind of deficit.

Just curious what others have found works for them and their situations!

I'm working with a nutritionist, she has given me a range, with the current goals being at the higher end of the range is still resulting in loss (when I stick to it) so I believe I will be staying in this range for another year or so. Will revisit if I'm at the lower end and not losing anymore. She advised to never ever go under 1000 on purpose, but that might be based on my size and might not apply to a smaller person.
