Losing weight is mostly mental.

Physical weight loss is taking in fewer calories than you burn. But sticking with it requires a radical change that few people can maintain. It's a life choice that takes effort daily. Weight loss is a lifestyle. Healthy living is as easy to through away as your poor life decisions first year in college, contour makeup and nady ice neon sign.

You lose your extra weight, great! It's not a cure so keep at it. Maintain it. Do the work everyday. Or else you'll be grabbing for your fat clothes 2 months down the road wondering what the hell happened.

I'm with you on the contour makeup. Not a fan. But for the sake of debate, "mostly" mental infers there's a little bit of something else. What's the other side of your point of view?

I think a logical, dogmatic approach to weight loss is the other side. The calorie counting part of MFP is incredible and I love it. But the long lasting radical life change is found in the community within.

The main point I was making was that a heathy lifestyle takes real lasting change to be real. Radical change if you will. Not calorie counting but a change in being.

    Thanks for the response.

Done properly, weight loss isn't a radical change. It's a series of small changes that (hopefully) add up to lifelong new habits that will serve you well into maintenance.

    Precisely!

I agree that this is mostly mental - same with any sport or subject you want to excel in.

The key to success lies around how well you implement a positive feedback loop. No one can rely on only mental or physical, but when the two work in concert success is almost ensured.
