Could be related to a number of things, but usually it has something to do with the ingredient list. Do you have any food intolerances or allergies? Protein shakes usually contain whey products which can cause upset to those that have difficulty with lactose intolerance.

Sometimes a protein shake on an empty stomach makes me nauseous too. I find it's better when I use casein.0

Nope...Never had any alergy problems or food intolerance.I have dairy products all my life, never problem with lactose...
A friend told me I should go for the soy protein shake. No idea what to do.I think I'll have to try. It's either that or eating chicken breast all day long LoL0 -

I get plenty of protein without using a lot of powder, and no chicken. There are plenty of other ways to get protein...
How much protein are you aiming to eat, and have you tried just incorporating more protein based foods?2 -
Change protein. If you are using whey (regular) try isolated whey, egg white protein, beef protein, even vegan protein (rice isn't bad) etc...there is so much choice.2

No need to use protein shakes unless you have a hard time getting your daily protein quantity from other food.1

Hemp protein also good if it upsets your stomach1

Are you using premixed/pre bottled ones? I find that the pre made ones upset my stomach but if I buy the dry powder and make my own (even if it's the same brand) then I'm fine.0

I usually use protein shake as a meal replacement, when I have no time to cook or prepare something. And I got used to those,I didn't even pay attention to the food that I ate and the protean I consume through the food... That's bad I know! Have to change a lot!I just realized I hit plateau,so lots of changes coming up...Thanks!!0
