hey all! i've been seeing so many posts recently about not eating after 8 or 9pm. however, i'm a night person. i fully "wake-up" probably around 2pm or so even though my day technically starts at 8am. i also only work out at night--usually between 6-9pm. anything wrong with eating after all that? i'm usually up until 12-1am... thoughts are welcome!

i just eat 3 hours before bedtime! always works for me, and i never have to worry about a cutoff
  • I've read that your body can't tell the difference and that the rule about not eating after eight is a myth, so eat at any time you'd like.

No, of course not! There's no magic cut-off time! Not eating after a certain time has been proven time and time again to be a myth!

I read somewhere that the whole eating at certain times thing is a myth. Calories eaten less calories burned = net calories...period. Doesn't matter when.

Boy I wish I could answer that for you...then we'd both know!! I was always of the opinion it was bad to eat within 3-4 hrs of bed. Others here say a calorie is a calorie no matter when you eat it, so if you're on target it doesn't matter. To err on the side of safety I try not to.

Eating after 8pm is a myth. Just eat the "right" foods after 8pm and you won't turn into a Gremlin.

Your body will process the food, just may take a little longer...it's not like it's going to effect your weight loss average over the course of a month.

Eat while sitting in bed.....it doesn't matter and won't affect you negatively.

I know people say that but I'm a calories in calories out person. I plan for an evening snack. If I have the calories remaining and I'm hungry I eat something. Last nigh I had a glass of wine, some spicy hummus and some pita chips. I still ended my day a little under my calorie goal so I don't worry about it. I have lost the weight I want and have maintained for 2 months now. I think everyone is different.

I never have a set time to cut off eating. I don't think it matters.

I've also heard the eating after a certain time thing is a myth. The only thing I would say is not to eat too much sugar at night because, although you are technically still burning calories, you are less active when you sleep, so less chance to use the sugar as energy, rather it is stored as fat.

I don't have a cut off time because I think that if your body is telling you it's hungry, you should eat, whenever it is. Just eat the right stuff!

Gremlins should not be fed after midnight. Humans have no such restriction.

It doesn't matter what time you eat as long as you only eat the amount of calories you're supposed to. All of that stuff about not eating after a certain time is crazy talk. Eat when you feel like eating. Just don't eat more calories than the program tells you to eat.

Personally, I can't go to sleep without something in my belly.

Timing matters not - unless you are more likely to binge late at night. Then the problem is psychological and not metabolic.

I eat close to half my daily calories after 6pm. I can't stand going to bed with my stomach growling.

I've heard that since your energy requirements to sleep are so low, that the food eaten late will be more likely to be "stored." Sure it doesn't matter if you burn it being active the next day, but that whole "stored" thing... I'm just sayin'.

TECHNICALLY, you shouldn't feed MOGWAIS after midnight because then gremlins will come out of them....but close enough

My Food Diary has a Before Bedtime Snack Slot since I usually need a snack to last me all night. It's not big but I would say as long as you have enough calories it won't matter

    too cute!
  • I don't after 7, but it's a personal choice and is totally unnecessary. I just find that I tend to overeat at night, so if I limit eating all together past that time, I won't make the impulse/almost out of control decision to do so. It works for me and helps keeping my eating under control. (I do get all of my calories/workouts in before than MOST days. If not, I will make exceptions, even if I don't totally log everything.)
