You might want to start cycling calories or doing something different with exercise to get your metabolism into high gear and get over this hump. By the time you hit a month, you might want to consider doing something different from your usual routine.

Yeah, when you hit a plateau you need to confuse your body...mix things up...do it in a different order than normal...up your calories a bit too...even take a day to cheat a bit(it confuses the body when you do that)

I've even done where I didn't exercise for a week and then started back in after that week and it helped get me over my plateau...why it worked, I don't know..but it did...

Thanks for posting the above. I just came out of a three month plateau and am finally losing again but I just about gave up and felt like a failure. This certainly helped to put it all into perspective. Thanks again!

I think it really depends on your handling of how much you eat, exercise, and all sorts of other factors. So far I've remained fairly consistent with losing.. there may have been a week or two I didn't lose, but usually the next week would make up for it.

A plateau generally means you aren't doing it right. Either not eating enough, eating too much, etc, etc. As you lose weight your body adjusts to it's new size, and your BMR changes, and the amount of food you need to eat changes based on your activity levels and your new weight. What works at the start doesn't work halfway through. You need to constantly monitor and adjust what you're doing in order to maintain a weight loss, and also, as your body fat percentage goes down, weight takes longer to lose. I make adjustments to my life from an eating and exercise perspective about every couple weeks or so, and have yet to plateau, either in the 20 pounds I lost before finding this site, or the 12 pounds I've lost since.

I was on mine for around 7 to 8 weeks, weight and measurements stayed the same.I was working out incredibly hard too and nothing changed. So I changed my exercise routine from weights/yoga to straight cardio 30 mins plus everyday.I pop in ab workouts, resistance bands with with my wii and use exercise tv.Initially I lost a tonne of weight with my home gym, doing reps every other day.I hit my plateau and no matter what I did I stalled.Since I adjusted my workouts to mainly cardio with no heavy weights only hand weights or bands depending on the workout ive lost 7 pounds id say in a month. For me that was huge. Was quite a shock to the system when I started but your body will adjust.Ive also had to be a little more careful with what I eat too.MY rest days are when I feel tired,I dont go all out every single day, there are times I wake up and know this is a day off so I walk for 30 odd minutes.Ive been mixing up my workouts alot,30ds,bootcamps,ae sports active,walk/sculpt workouts, the lot.Ive maintained some of the muscle I had,I seem to be trimming down in my arms mainly but the change is also hitting the last areas I have which is great,so perhaps shock your body, look at your food intake and spice up your workouts so your body has to work.

I can't seem to find anyone else that has researched this theory. It sounds logical, but it seems like it's not really backed by anything other than "this could be what it is". It seems horrible though. It says that I have to go back to my baseline of exercise... so I'm supossed to go back to doing no exercise? that doesn't seem heathy either. If i get comfortable at my current weight, I will no longer want to lose the last 15 pounds. I think I will try the shock thing for a couple of weeks first, then see what happens. Thanks for the interesting perspective though.
