Started off with a great morning, super pumped went to the gym. Finally home but idk I'm feeling a little off. I checked my weight and noticed I gained 3 pounds. I know its not much and that I'm starting to get back into the groove of things again. But I'm worried. After checking my weight I was afraid to eat anything! I used to binge eat. Suffered alot of depression and now that I've managed to control it, I'm afraid I'm beginning to obsess over calorie intake. Hell, I was afraid to have a yogurt but I still had it. Anyone else out there have a similar experience? What sort of things did you do to get past that negative and fearful thinking? Also thinking of seeking professional help if it gets out of hand but I could still use some support.

I'm sorry you're having this struggle in your life! I don't have experience with eating disorders really, but I will tell you that 3lbs is not very significant. Honestly, many people will vary almost that much just in a day! Weighing myself in the morning sometimes gives very different results than in the evening, so I would try not to worry too much about that 3lbs. You also might be gaining muscle mass! That's healthy and looks great! And even if you're gaining a little weight, that doesn't have to be unhealthy! It might just mean you're getting more comfortable with yourself and stressing less, which is a positive thing. That being said, if you feel yourself stressing out over this, I think your idea to go to a professional is a good one. A therapist can help your sort through your stress in a healthy way, and I'd always recommend that. Hang in there, and good luck!

Also, if you weight yourself after going to the gym, you might see a hike due to water retention. That 3 lbs might just be water for muscle repair. It should go down by the next morning.

I hadn't thought about that. Do you think it's better to weigh yourself right after you wake up?

Body weight fluctuates daily. That's normal, so expect it.

    I'd suggest two options:
    1. Weigh yourself once a week, record it, and that's it.

    Or

    2. Weigh yourself a couple times a day for a while to understand how the body fluctuates in weight throughout the day. Again, it's a normal thing.

Or, do a combination of both. Most important: don't let the number on the scale affect your mind. It's just a number. You're still the same person you were before you stepped on the scale. And keep track of your measurements, too. A scale is just ONE tool for tracking our health.

These are the things I learned from the lovely people here on MFP that helped me (I lost 32 pounds)

All of the above and also trust the math.

Eat the calories that MFP have given you. It already gives you enough of a deficit to lose weight, don't second guess it.

Slow and steady wins this particular race.

Have faith that you are doing the right thing in the right way.

Don't worry about daily fluctuations look at the week/month as a whole.

I used to binge eat so I understand your worry it took a long time for me to get my eating under control and even then I had slip ups, it happens to us all. Feeling guilty is a wasted emotion, if you slip just get back to it as soon as possible.

    Hugs xx

Former anorexic current binge eater...trying so hard to get it under control but feeling so out of control most of the time. I understand the negative thoughts you're having and the mental game of having an eating disorder. I've never been able to lose weight in a healthy way, which is why I'm here. You can add me if you want, just know you're not alone in your struggles. I will support you in your journey ✌️
