Black Coffee

Hi, it’s my first morning starting calorie counting and I went to log black coffee and I am very surprised it has calories (I always thought it was zero).
Unfortunately it is showing anywhere from 0 to 5 on the app for calories, what would you pick?

I use the entry for "Coffee, Brewed from Grounds" and log it by the ounce and it usually winds up being 3-8 calories a day for the amount of coffee that I consume.2

Five or zero. It doesn't matter that much. It's such a small number, I'd worry more about the more calorie dense foods.7

I commend you for going for accuracy. There are some calories in black coffee, but I stopped logging it a while back because it was basically not going to be impactful enough for me to account for those 5-10 calories a day. It's probably the only thing I do every day that I don't log. I drew the line at black coffee and just said nope. It's just gonna be what it is.2

It’s only about 2 calories a cup (8 oz) depending on the brand. It’s a negligible amount of calories. If your drinking 8 cups a day the 16 calories isn’t going o hurt you as much as the amount of caffeine you are consuming is.2

Black coffee and plain tea have been my go-to weight loss/maintenance beverages.
The cals are negligible but I log a 20oz cup of coffee as 5 cals mainly as a reminder of how much coffee that I'm drinking.
I don't bother logging the tea because I've never seen a single cal associated w/drinking it.1 -
Such calories you get in black coffee are needed to walk to the bathroom after drinking the coffee.16

Drinking black coffee has made a big difference for me. I used to have milk, but since cutting it out, I have noticed some changes. Alibet over a period of months. It may have calories, but I'm sure it has aided in weight-loss.0

since i do not know for sure, i go with the 5 cal count to be safe1

I do the same thing, but I do not actually measure it. My mug holds 14 oz and I don't fill it to the top so I log 24 oz. for my 2 mugs in the morning. I add a small amount of half and half to cut the acidity. That I DO measure and log the amount used.1 -
I never logged coffee. even if it's 5.. I don't need to be that precise...1

I log what I add to coffee, but don't log the coffee itself. The calories are so low the error is negligible.
I'm more cautious around calorie dense foods and will log as 1.2, ensuring I'm capturing the 20% margin of error, but that's only when I'm in a cut.0 -
I drink the same amount every day, and I do not log it. Hence I under-count by the same amount every day. The maintenance TDEE I calculate over time is under-counted by that amount, so once I drink the coffee, it all evens out.
For reasons I can't explain exactly, I do log the cream or milk I put in it. Weird, huh? I usually have the same amount of that, too, but I'm not as consistent about what I add to the coffee. Sometimes I drink it black.
Tangent - there seem to be strong opinions on MFP about weighing eggs, too. Some meticulous trackers don't weigh them. I am not a meticulous tracker, but it is no effort at all to weigh eggs so I do. The "large" eggs I buy every week average 50g but routinely vary from 44g to 60g which can easily add up to a bigger tracking error than the untracked coffee (and certainly a greater macro impact). Generally, the smaller the deficit (or closer to goal), the more accuracy matters.
