    But you lost a pound! How much do you expect to lose each week? Did you just start weighing and logging calories two weeks ago?

    Weight is moving give it time.

    2 weeks isn't long enough to know average weekly weight loss. Over that time span, extra water weight from a variety of sources can mask fat loss for some people . . . or a big water weight drop (plus reduction in average digestive system contents) can make other people think they're losing fat much faster than they really are.

    Partial list of things that can affect water weight in generally healthy people:

    * New exercise routine
    * More or less sodium in food than usual
    * More or less carbs in food than usual
    * Time of month for premenopausal women
    * Healing of injuries
    * Minor illness (colds and whatnot)
    * Alcohol consumption

    After 4-6 weeks of sticking with a new eating/exercise approach, you should start having a decent idea of what your average weekly loss will be, and you can adjust your calorie goal from there. Until then, it's a crapshoot.

    If it really turns out to be a pound every 2 weeks, that's not terrible, especially if you don't have a large total amount to lose. People get bad and unhealthy ideas about what a sensible weight loss rate is, from reality TV and weight loss blogs, IG-ers, and the like.

    To be healthy, weight loss needs to be a gradual and sustainable process. Settle in for the long haul - you can reach your goals. Keep in mind that you'll need to adopt a new routine forever, in order to stay at a healthy weight permanently. The weight loss period is a good time to experiment to find what's sustainable and satiating for you.

    Best wishes!
