Increase calories and lose weight????

Just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else. I've made it within 16 pounds of my goal and decided and I would try and maintain that loss for a month before moving foward. I changed my settings and it said I could eat about 1600 calories a day, so I have been for a week and I have not exercised because I wanted to give my muscles a break. ( I did count the calories burned at work though, being a waitress).Since I have lost about 4 pounds. I don't think it's water because I keep my sodium around 2500. Anybody else have this happen or have an explanation?? THanks :)

  • Yes, When you are trying to lose weight it makes your calories lower so you lose them, well if you decide you are going to maintain it tells you how many you need to maintain 15 cal per pound and if you are doing work outside that you still can lose weight

A lot of the fitness trainers on this site say that the closer you get to your goal, the smaller your calorie deficit should be. Eat more, lose more. Search that topic in the forums and you'll find a lot of discussion about it.

Natskedat's blog is great. Basically, it takes energy to make energy. Increase energy (calories) and you get a temporary spike in your metabolism. :)

I think you can bump within hours of posting if the topic is important to you. Topics can get hidden pretty quickly if it is a busy time on the forum boards.....

Eat more to lose more! Absolutely!! Can't stress it enough - This is not about starving yourself thin. It's about good healthy choices and moderation  Thank goodness, because food is INCREDIBLE!

Yes - I have in the past. I hit a plateau, couldn't get past it, so I increased my calorie intake and started losing again. It is very possible, not uncommon at all. After I hit goal (4 more lbs), I am going to increase my calories to wanting to lose .5 lb/week because I want to get to mid-30's before I start maintaining. Your body is adjusting, don't be alarmed.

Bumping is also used to make the topic show in your "My Topics" section as a reminder to check responses later.
