What to do after a relapse

Hi gang. I began the Milo Food Plan and a three-times-a-week work-out schedule last week. Unfortunately, I had already planned an ice cream social to celebrate a friend's birthday. It was Sunday. Today is Monday, and I'm back to eating healthy, and I just came back from the gym. Does anyone have thoughts about what to do to eliminate the damage that the ice cream splurge caused? Has anyone had a similar relapse?

What damage was that? Brainfreeze? Sorry, but why would ice cream on a friend's birthday (assuming you don't have 300 friends) be "damage" or "relapse"? Do you plan on never eating ice cream again? What is a healthy diet to you? And sorry for the barrage questions. MFP has changed my relationship with food; I struggled a lot, too.

I wouldn't consider eating ice cream on a special occasion to be "damage." It sounds like you're back on plan with your food and exercise, so I hope you enjoyed celebrating with your friend!

Not worrying about the occasional splurge, lol. It's a plan, not a do or die, and once in a while plans change. And one day of icecream is not likely to have done much damage. Generally you can add a few more minutes of cardio and and a few less bites over the next few days to balance it out. Just don't allow yourself to go to far under and make yourself sick. Otherwise, whats done is done. Next meal is a chance to make different choices.

Your ice cream splurge didn't necessarily set you back at all.

Let's say you planned to eat at a 500 calorie deficit for the day. 1 pound a week loss would be 500x7 or 3,500 calories.

If your ice cream brought you back to maintenance, then you lost just one days worth of progress (1/7th of a pound). If you made up for these calories by skimping on breakfast, or skipping a couple snacks you might be in the same place.

Celebrations, holidays, and events are part of life whether you are dieting or maintaining. Learning to deal with these kinds of days is valuable. You don't need to be perfect for weight loss, you just need to be pretty consistent.

Ice cream is fun! And reduces stress... lowers cortisol levels. Enjoy yourself
Every now and then. Just dont go crazy.

Stick with it! Focus on the big picture and don't let one meal or one day affect you. Continue to accurately report your meals every step on the way. Even if you go way over make sure you log all the data accurately and keep track of every meal.

What's wrong with having ice cream? nothing IMO. Log it and move on. If it put you over your calories for the day then you get back on track the next day, no biggie.
