Hello, I have been struggling since early January with being about to breath. I just got out of the hospital two weekends ago. They checked my heart and lungs and my results were pretty clean with no major issues. My diagnosis from cardiologist, Pulmonologist and hospitalist as well as my family doctor is the weight of my neck is crushing my airway. Only “cure” is extreme weight loss quickly. They wanted to do weight loss surgery but I’m afraid. I asked to give me a chance to take off my own weight. They gave me 30 days until we explore my last option. Since February 18 I am down 18lbs with ONLY doing a calorie intake of 1500 and under. I’ve been successful with keeping it between 800-1200 calories per day. I need help please on anything I can do to make a significant difference before my 30 days are up. I’m new to everything to do with this process. I’m trying to incorporate walking slowly into my day but it’s hard when I can’t breathe. Thank you anyone for your help, God bless!

That sounded really scary and painful :'( There isn't really anything else you can do besides sticking to a calorie deficit. An intake of 1500, maybe down to 1200, is good, and will give you the fastest and most steady weightloss. Please don't try to force it by going lower, weightloss can't happen any faster, you'll just be hurting yourself, and/or get so hungry that you'll overeat and erase all your effort, fast. Welcome to MFP, and please take care of yourself :)

try joining a challange. there is one i just joined. 5 weeks left of the challange. it keeps you accountable, and motivates. you weigh in once a week. look under community up above on the top blue bar. then scroll looking for April Fools- The Weight Loss Trick. after you get on the page. you will see peoples progress. there is a star on the top right to make it a favorite. click on the star to make it a favorite. so you can pull it up easily when clicking the community button next time. it helped me drop weight, cuz all week i knew i was going to add my new weeks weight, and i stived for a loss, more than if i just went to my home page. hope this helps.. SEE YOU THERE!!

Is there any other exercise you can tolerate? Swimming? Bouncing on a ball? Stationary bike? Small baby steps and you'll be surprised at how you progress :) Congratulations on the 18 lb weight loss!!!

Wow! Being down 18 pounds since February 18 is quite a lot! You do realize that's not even 2 weeks, right? You can't speed it up anymore without starving yourself (and that you don't want to do). If you continue at this rate you will see a significant loss in 30 days.

Do what you can to be as active as you can tolerate. If you have a swimming pool nearby, there are often aquasize classes that are lower intensity. I do one that's called stretch and tone and it is very low impact. Lots of us are older and overweight. People work at their own pace and it's a no judgement zone.

You could also do chair yoga, maybe some light dumbbell workouts while sitting down, resistance bands.

Weight is lost through calorie deficit. Exercise is great for fitness and extra calories when you get to the point your base calories are on the low side, but if your doctors are discussing wls at this point you should easily lose weight on 1500 calories per day. Please don't try to stick to 800-1200 long term unless you are doing so under medical supervision. Not only is it difficult to get adequate nutrition, but you set yourself up for a backslide when your body eventually demands more food.

Hang in there! You're in the right place

You can do it, keep your mind on the goal=losing weight. Simple things, like when folding laundry, take one piece from the dryer to the place you are folding laundry, go back for the next one etc. While in the kitchen making dinner, use the countertop and do a few pushups. Little things can be beneficial. Best of luck!
