Can you love the gym too much?

I I started the gym in January and absolutely love it, can't get enough of it. But people are moaning and nagging that im doing too much at the gym. Anyone else get that xxx

Nope. I go regularly, but I will never love it, it's just a means to an end. How much is too much depends I suppose on the effect on your health and your other commitments.3

You do what you are comfortable and happy with. If you enjoy it and you still have balance in your life then who are other people to judge?
"Too much" is subjective and will vary from person to person.5 -
People often say things like that when others make sudden changes they’re not used to.
Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s too much. What’s the impact?3 -
I started going regularly in January too and I go 6 days a week. I started so I could eat more but my day is better is when I go so I always want to go.

Does your time at the gym get in the way of other things of real value in your life? Things like your faith (if that is something you value), quality time with people you love, quality sleep, work and household responsibilities. If you workout an hour a day 7 days a week that's a bit over 5% of the 168 hours everyone has in a week, (allowing 3 additional hours for travel time to the gym or whatever).
IMO, for MOST people 1-2 hours a day on average won't impact the things of real value.10 -

Unless it's becoming an unhealthy obsession then you do you. People can say inappropriate things when they don't understand what someone is doing especially when it relates to health. I get it.2

Yes, you can. There is such a thing as exercise addiction. Well, addiction to the hormones released during exercise.5

I have been feeling the same way about exercise. I go to the gym several times a week, and when I don't, I get on my home elliptical. I feel like I HAVE to go to Body Pump 2 or even 3 times a week. I think it is because this is something I am finally doing for ME, and it makes me feel good.6

You can over do it for sure...how much is too much is subjective, but usually people who train a lot and spend hours training are following a certain protocol or program that also dictates varied rates of intensity, rest/recovery, etc and they're usually training to an ends means.
Outside of training specifically for something, I'm all about balance and moderation.
Of course, you're also in the "honeymoon" phase right now too with a mere two months, so there's that...just don't burn out...forever is a long time and ultimately what you do has to be sustainable over the long haul that is your life.6 -

Some people may get fed up. Personally been going to the gym for over 40 years. Still enjoy it and no intentions of stopping10 -
I come out of habit and dedication. I take a day off and I feel like I was made to lift. Some people are natural swimmers, dancers, etc and for me this is just something my body enjoys therefore so do I. I have been doing it over three years and keep my gym dates, but also have a life as well.2

Yes! I think? I love going to the gym. It's my time. With three kids and working from home, I don't have anything else that is just for me! People say I'm obsessed but I don't agree. I do make it a priority to go 6 mornings a week, and that annoys some folks I suppose. But everyone has something in their lives that they prioritize!
I do a pretty rigorous routine 5 days a week. I tried cutting out the 6th day but I feel better mentally when I go. So the 6th day is very light cardio, and then usually steam room or sauna. Just make sure you're happy with you plan and not pushing too hard!5 -

What about doing something active with your mam and friends from time to time to replace one of those gym sessions? Tomorrow, I'll be doing yard work with my brother and 80 year old mother.2 -
I actually watch TV there during my cardio on the treadmill screen. So no losses5 -
I feel better after I workout. Plus I can eat more on days I earn excercise calories. I swim and it helps me feel better in so many ways.2

How long are spending there when there? What exercise are you doing?
Or is it a case of not necessarily spending too much time at the gym but talking about it all the time?3 -
Resting is a really important part of getting in shape. You need to give your body a chance to recover, otherwise you're greatly increasing your chance of injury.3

As long as you are building in a rest day, and, if doing strength training, not hitting the same muscle group every day, you should be fine. Keep in mind that muscles need rest to grow. 5-6 days doesn't seem unreasonable. I do six days, but alternate between strength and cardio.3 -

Do lots of different classes, step, aerobics, abs, fatburn combat and pads. Also started doing trx and deadlift and kettle bells xxx0 -

I joined a gym 6 nights ago. Have been going every night since then! I intend to go every night with rest days here and there. I'll be at the sauna haha.0

Eventually it probably won't be as exciting - doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Some people might say I'm "obsessed" with racing motorcycles, but it doesn't impact my ability to take care of the things I need to, so I chase my passion. Sure, I end up giving up things in my life that other people might value more than I do, but for me, reaching those goals and chasing those ambitions is my priority, so too bad.
As to the gym specifically, I workout 5 days a week for ~2 hours each day, and usually do something active on the weekend (but not a regular "workout" persay) as well.
Overdoing it would be if you're over training and hurting yourself or pushing aside other responsibilities that you've committed to.0 -
It's easy to get really enthusiastic about the gym at first. See how you feel about it in a year - if you last that long. Most people don't. The first batch peels off at about 3 months. The second at around the six month mark. 90% or more won't be there after one year (but will keep paying their dues... yay!).1
