Hey!
This probably sounds like a dumb question, but I was wondering, when logging your foods into your diary, do you take into account how much salt and pepper you've used throughout the day? Like, is there a certain point when it will cost you a lot of calories? just wondering...thanks!

I don't log salt anymore because I stopped watching my sodium intake. I do count pepper sometimes, but it's only like 1 calorie per dash or something. It's not much. I mainly log it if I use a lot of it, because it contains potassium and that's one of the nutrients I track.
  • I never thought of this.

I don't worry about pepper but I worry a lot about salt. It is recommended that you watch your sodium intake. It really adds up!

You should have sodium as one of your goal numbers. Yes it matters how much you have in a day. When you add it as one on you goals. like cal, carb, fat you will see how important it is to keep a tab on how much you are getting because you will be shocked! Too much sodium causes water retention, among other health risks. You could be retaining water because of the amount of salt you are taking in. It could add up to a couple pounds. Go to settings/ Then Diary Settings/ then Nutrients Tracked and add sodium. Just ignoring it doesn't make it go away.

I don't count pepper...but maybe I should since I rely on it a lot! Salt I rarely use and I do count since I watch my sodium intake. I know there has been a lot of talk on here recently about sodium not being bad for you, but it makes my fingers swell so I figure that can't be good! I try to keep my sodium level to 1500 mg (which is the Canadian recommendation), but it does get hard even though I never add salt to any foods.
  • Salt bad. Pepper good.
Salt makes your body retain water. Pepper is good foor your heart.
