Hi all,

I’ve finally left slimming world after the constant up-down-binge and repeat cycle and want to try something new- that hopefully works!!

MFP recommends 1700 calories a day but I walk 10-15k steps (Fitbit) a day at work so what percentage of exercise calories should I eat back? Aiming to go swimming 3 times a week too!

I’m about 210lb and 5ft8. Need to buy some home scales- should I weigh weekly or every other week?

Thank you!

    Hi Hannah! Welcome!

To address your exercise calories question... I personally only eat those calories if I feel like I need them. If my hunger is satisfied without them, then I don’t bother. I see them as extra/spare calories. If the meal I’m making will push me over my normal allowance as long as it doesn’t go over the exercise amount I’m happy. Basically, don’t worry about eating them or a percentage of them. Really it doesn’t matter. Just go by your hunger level.

As for weighing yourself that depends on how the scale will affect you. If seeing little to no weight loss will not bother you... weekly is fine. If you’d like to see results you could weigh yourself once every 2 weeks or even once a month. The scale can either be super encouraging, or a huge discouragement. In saying that, even if the scale isn’t giving you the number you want... the scale isn’t the only thing that matters. There’s other ways of seeing health improvements. Such as energy levels, generally feeling better, clothes getting looser, and other things. So don’t be too focused on the scale! Sometimes it will be wonderful, others it won’t.

If you’d like to add me to your friends I’m happy to encourage you along your journey, and you can do the same for me :)
