I’ve had one egg this morning and I’m already over my fat and protein. I think I’m misunderstanding how this works. Can someone shed some light on this for me please!?

What are your goals? Where are you seeing this?

For me, one egg is 5g of Fat out of a daily allowance of 66g, and 6g of Protein out of a daily allowance of 99g.

Since you haven't eaten any carbs yet, all your food (100%) are made of protein and fat, hence the high values. If you start eating something else, the 100% changes and therefore the percentage of fat and protein adjust as well. Just check the value as soon as you've entered some other food.

You don't have to hit those percents with every bit of food or every meal - just look at your averages over the day and then over the week, they'll probably be pretty close. You can adjust the %'s your self a little if you find a balance that works better for you.

you might find it more useful to view the goals as amounts in grams rather than percentages

Percentage of what? A percentage is usually an expression of a part out of a total.

Is that part of the MFP Diary? I've never seen that view before.

You're not over. Those percentages shown on your screen capture are percentages relative to what you've eaten so far - not to your overall diet. If you were to log something like pure sugar, those percentages would change significantly... and they will change each time you add something to your diary.

There’s a pie chart on the app (not the website) that breaks down the calories eaten into percentages of macros.

OP, when people talk about being over their macros, they mean the number of grams they are of that particular macro. The pie chart just breaks down the macros into percentage of total calories consumed. So 59 percent of your calories have come from fat and 41% have come from protein. Fat has 9 calories per gram, while carbs and protein only have 4 calories per gram.

Most people state that getting within 10% of macros is good.

Yes, because that's all you've eaten...

Log your whole day, then look at your macros.

If you're worried about macros, the percentages generate a target on a gram basis. Focus on and build your day around hitting those gram targets and the percentage split will reflect the right balance at the end of the day. Planning and pre-logging are enormously helpful to make sure you have your bases covered with adequate protein, etc.
