Looking for friends on fasting. My nutritionist Dr said try 16 hour fast and 8 hour time frame to eat. Looking for support.

I tried IF, but not eating breakfast caused me to get too hungry and binge eat later in the day. I've been sticking to my usual 3 meals a day and doing much better. However, I know some people who have done really well with IF, so maybe give it a try.0

I love IF never liked breakfast and not super hungry for lunch, love to eat in the evenings though, so this works for me.0

If you're more hungry at a certain part of the day, I think IF can work great. I'm usually hungry at night, so the leangains protocol works pretty well for me.0

I tried it for several weeks thinking it would help to save my calories for later in the day when I like to eat a lot, but it made things worse for me. I found that because I deprived myself all morning, I wanted to go nuts in the evening even worse than before.
I went back to eating breakfast and nothing after dinner and that has helped greatly. Having said that, I learned that my problem isn't late day hunger, but late day snacking/cravings. Once I start after dinner I find it harder to stop. So for me, not starting is much more useful.
It's a very individual thing. I recommend experimenting to see what works best for you. Give it a good amount of time, not just a few days to play around with your macros as well. It can take some time to figure out but I promise it's totally worth the effort.
If your nutritionist is worth a dime they'll work with what you need to accomplish your goals even if it's not what they originally think it should be.1 -
I lost 50lbs, before I knew anything about diet, by aiming for roughly half my (already moderately reduced) daily calories, twice a week.
I couldn't exercise at all for most of the time it look, so my appetite was probably suppressed at the time. Plus I was on a ton of pain meds, so I forgot to eat often.
In the year since, I’ve maintained by going back to very low calorie days once or twice a week whenever my weight crept up by 6 or 8lbs.
I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, but I don’t think it does me any harm.1 -
You might want to get into the habit of calling it Intermittent Fasting, or IF. Fasting means lots of different things. Many people assume it involves juice or water fasting, not eating for several days, or having spiritual or religious meaning. Being more specific will get you more of the right people
I don't eat breakfast, but I still end up eating in a window of 10-11 hours, so I just call it "Not Eating Breakfast". Good luck!3 -
Calories are calories, it doesn't matter what time you eat them. As shown by the replies in this thread already, intermittent fasting can be helpful for some in sticking to their calorie goals; for others, it can create its own issues with satiety and adherence.
There's nothing magical about eating at certain times of the day, or within a certain eating window.0 -
I've done IF most of my adult life - only we simply called it skipping breakfast before some wiz-guru decided to slap a fancy title on it. Nothing magical about it - I got fat doing IF, I lost weight doing IF, I have maintained doing IF.5

Did she/he say that 8 of those 16 hours can be spent sleeping? My friend is a faster and she really likes it. I have tried it for a few days (maybe over a week and a half). I felt like my body adapted from feeling like I had to have breakfast to eating lunch and dinner then stopping to go to bed.0 -

I have also been trying to not eat after dinner. So, last night, I finished my dinner and had dessert. My kids thought it was the strangest thing that I was having ice cream, so soon after finishing my dinner. I explained to them, that there was a time, you had dinner, dessert, and the kitchen was closed!! I am not sure they believed me!1 -

Originally when I started a fasting diet the 5.2 ok was really good on the 500 calorie days
This was a few months ago but now I just end up binging later on in the day or eating things like chocolate. I think I should just leave that diet for a while and stick to a healthy am9int of calories. What do u think0
