I miss the squat rack , but other than that I think I’m actually getting a better workout at home. Anyone second this?

I left the gym also.
Got fed up with queuing for equipment, people staying on for 6-8 sets and not letting anyone else on in between their 2 mins off.
Bought my own mutli-gym (functional trainer) for the garage and haven't looked back since. Costs about the same as my monthly membership but so worth it.0 -
I think it would depend on what equipment you have at home. It's highly subjective.1

Oh and running, I’ll always have that1

My garage /gym is man cave, my place of solitude, my escape, my wheel house, my happy place...
I have not set foot in a gym since I was a teenager and likely never will again
But I'm not much of a social guy either so...5 -

Totally agree, assuming you have adequate equipment. By the time you drive to and from the gym, change, workout, waiting time, etc., the time really adds up. At home, I can go from exercise to exercise with only my required rest between sets and bang out a full workout in much less time than going to the gym.
I do miss the pool, though.0 -

I miss the pool too!0 -
I have been a past member to several gyms as I have relocated through my career. I also work long hours so sometimes my schedule has not matched when different gyms are open. Some gyms have been better than others. One thing they have in common is frustration with waiting on equipment or weights. I currently workout at home with a TRX & Max Trainer. Everything is there when I need it & I can workout whenever I choose. Its starting to get warmer here so I will also start my cycling season!0

I wish I had everything I need in a home gym. Maybe someday. For now, it’s to the (commercial) gym for me.0

I got myself one of these, superb and a small foot print. Great build quality.

I find working at the gym a better motivation. I'm not disciplined enough to work out at home.0

Perhaps you can buy a decent power rack for home use.
Usually can be found for under $300.
Used even less.0 -
I workout at home. I don't have a rack. But I have a decent amount of equipment. I still make progress and it is more convenient for me.1

I ask to cut in if I see the person resting, or occasionally wait for a guy to finish his last set. In the last few years, I've only had an issue once.
I think it would be hard for me to motivate away from other people. Good job with that discipline. : )0 -
I'm very happy with my home gym. I prefer to workout alone. It's my happy space. I enjoy having everything I need at home, when I'm ready to use it and I'm very happy with my progress.
I'm always trying something new and adding new toys and equipment so I never get bored.
I enjoy working out and staying active outdoors as well.2 -
I work out at the gym outside of peak hours (mid morning and early afternoon for me), so I rarely have the wait problem. The gym is my quiet happy place—childcare, giant headphones to discourage chit chat and I’m good. I have been working out in the garage more lately (I have a squat rack, bench, and enough bars/plates/dumbbells to set up my whole routine ahead of time, which is awesome. Much prefer running outside too.
However, if kids are up they find me, so I am interrupted often. I thought it would be all cute to workout outside while the kids played. Nope. Ended up all “yes you can exercise with mommy but you can’t sit in my head! Stop rolling that bar down the driveway!”0 -

I have never been to the gym, by the time I drove to the gym and back I can have my entire workout done.1

I like home better. I have treadmill, stationary bike, dumbbell weights, yoga mat, yoga ball, step for step aerobics, Shaun T dvds, & Corey Everson, Denise Austin dvds, & insanity. a pool, & stairs. I set an alarm 7pm & made a schedule for each day to switch up the dvds. I had Wii, but it quit yesterday, so more time for rock in body instead of Wii sports for a light fun day. no worries about germs, forgetting clothes, or parking. just turn tv to DVD & get moving. saves me money, too.1

My husband and I are retired and attend a YMCA for Senior Silver Sneakers classes, and it is the greatest motivator we have ever had. We have met so many nice people that have become friends, and look forward to everyday that we attend the classes. When the music starts pumping, we all move together, and get a good workout. Then, we also lift weights 3 times a week. I am also planning to go to Yoga, Tai-Chi, and maybe line dancing classes.

I have a free Silver Sneakers gym membership thru my Medicare+ coverage but I do all of my workouts at home.
I've got a full free weight set up in my garage (over $3k invested) that is better equipped than the one at my gym and I also have a Lemond spin bike and Concept2 rower in the house.
So, no need to go to the gym to workout. I sometimes use the Stairmaster when I go there but, when I do go there, I usually just use the sauna, steamroom and whirlpool.
