Please don't rip me a new one for asking this, because I'm genuinely confused.
A question that has surfaced to the forefront of my thoughts lately... This might be hard to answer.
Where is the line between counting calories, exercising, and what we internalize as "healthy eating", and that of the disease anorexia? I know it's a gray area, but I thought I'd ask for advice.
What is "too much"?
I am not sure if my work out buddy is teetering on the line between healthy and disease, her behaviors are sending me some warning signs. Fasting for days, gym two-four times a day, hair loss, 5 hour power shots before the gym so she can go harder, average 6 cups of coffee per day because she's always exhausted,... I mean I watch what I eat, I count calories, I might be a little obsessive, but I'm truly concerned for her. Help?

i'm not an expert, but unfortunately, that sounds like anorexia today.
especially when the body starts showing physical symptoms like hair loss.(

If you are eating less than 1200 calories a day, you are physically starving yourself, and that is anorexia...0

It's very simple to answer really. If you are eating too little, not getting proper nutrients and working to hard causing negative health effects then you have crossed "the line" between healthy and unhealthy (and sometimes anorexia).
Everyone is different but at the core we all require similar nutrition. Make sure that's happening and work off any detrimental fat and you're good to go.0 -
That sounds like it to me. There is an interesting breed of Anoxeria where you count your calories and you make sure that you exercise ALL of your food calories off. It is worrisome because it is harder to discuss with the person because they are eating.0

I think you're right to be worried about your friend..0
