I have arrived at the place where I know I need to have consistency of diet and exercise in my life but finding the right mind set and applying it are two completely different things!!! Help! Thanks for your time? John

Hello. I'm 3 weeks in to a change of lifestyle. Are you looking for tips or motivation? What I can say is if not now, when? Time is going to pass whether you change it up, or not, so why not be a healthier and happier version of yourself this time next year? Better than coming back next year this time feeling that you need consistency in diet and exercise but not yet having dug in. I've always been the type to go cold turkey, or rip the bandage off, though; may it work for you!0

The struggle is real. Having a couple of realistic goals to motivate you helps. This year I want to hike and not die doing it like last year and the year before that. And since I suck at staying consistent I am aiming to workout/ be active 3 times a week for 52 weeks in a row. So my advice? Have short term goals to keep you focused along with your ultimate long term goal. It has to be something specific, measurable and easily attainable, or you wont stick with it. In my experience vague goals (I'm going to get in shape! YAY!) are easily put off until tomorrow for all eternity.
ETA: I could not remember the S.M.A.R.T. acronym, so I had to look it up. I feel that it very much applies to weight loss and fitness. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time Specific. You want to your long term goal and your short term goal to follow this criteria. The short term goals can really be as simple as "I am going to log my calories for one week" or " I am going to workout for 10 minutes today, and 3 more times this week" whatever you feel that you can achieve right now.0 -
Start small ... you do not have to make a big plan and put the whole thing into practice all at once ... cause then there are so many things to keep yourself 'motivated' about that you wear yourself out emotionally. ... So start with with taking stock of what it is you are doing/not doing now that you think will help achieve your aim and start with 1 thing that you can stick to every day until it becomes comfortable and familiar ... then add to it. Cause in the end, it's a bunch of little things we do that pile up to make the difference.
PS ... and your threat 'title' says it all ... 'consistency' is what matters. Good luck.0
